LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring life member and Past Commander Mike
Koulermous upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of
distinguished service to the Northport American Legion Post 694

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor life
member and Past Commander Mike Koulermous upon the occasion of his
retirement after many years of distinguished service to the Northport
American Legion Post 694 to be celebrated on Friday, February 27, 2015,
at the Legion Clubhouse in Northport, New York; and
WHEREAS, Chartered and incorporated by Congress in 1919, The American
Legion, the nation's largest wartime veterans organization, is devoted
to mutual helpfulness, and is committed to mentoring youth and sponsor-
ing wholesome programs in its communities, advocating patriotism and
honor, promoting strong national security, and devoting time and ener-
gies to its fellow service members and veterans; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception by a group of war-weary veterans of World
War I, The American Legion has evolved into one of the most influential
nonprofit organizations in the United States; its membership grew to
over one million, and local posts have formed across the country; today,
membership stands at over 2.4 million in 14,000 posts worldwide; and
WHEREAS, The American Legion's success depends entirely on active
membership, participation and volunteerism; Mike Koulermous was such a
member who has been instrumental in helping this worthy organization
serve its thriving community, veterans, and service members; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Mike Koulermous rendered faithful, conscien-
tious and valuable service to the Northport American Legion Post 694;
and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as Past Commander, Mike Koulermous served
with loyalty, honor and distinction; and
WHEREAS, In his official acts, Mike Koulermous was governed by a keen
sense of duty and always showed a unique grasp of human problems; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure with the Northport American Legion Post
694, Mike Koulermous earned the admiration, esteem and affection of his
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals and organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are
brought to our attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by
all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor life member and Past Commander Mike Koulermous upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of distinguished service to the
Northport American Legion Post 694; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mike Koulermous.
