LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Andre Dias upon the occasion of his
designation as the 2016 Junior Firefighter of the Year by the Mineola
Junior Fire Department
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Andre Dias upon the
occasion of his designation as the 2016 Junior Firefighter of the Year
by the Mineola Junior Fire Department to be celebrated at its 14th Annu-
al Junior's Installation Dinner at its Department Hall in Mineola, New
York, on Saturday, April 23, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Andre Dias is a student at Mineola High School where he is
frequently on the honor roll, attaining an 87 average; his work ethic,
initiative and willingness to go above and beyond what he is called to
do have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers; and
WHEREAS, Since August 26, 2013, Andre Dias has been an exemplary and
extremely active member of the Mineola Junior Fire Department; for over
two years, he has maintained an average attendance between 80 and 97
percent of all activities and has attended almost every training
program; and
WHEREAS, Andre Dias enjoys training with his fellow Junior Firefight-
ers and has learned the operations of both Engine and Truck companies;
and
WHEREAS, Always willing to lend a hand, Andre Dias is usually the
first one to be at the firehouse to assist the advisors with anything
pertaining to that day's event and has assisted at every fundraiser both
in and out of the department; and
WHEREAS, When he is not at school or the firehouse, Andre Dias likes
to play sports and go camping with his family and friends; he is also an
avid New York Islanders and New York Jets fan; and
WHEREAS, Andre Dias is looking forward to joining the Mineola Fire
Department and dreams of earning a living as a firefighter or studying
engineering at college; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Andre
Dias desires to be such a firefighter; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, Andre
Dias now stands honorably, with just pride in his accomplishments and in
eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciating
the caring counsel and support provided by Senior Firefighters, mentors,
and his parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Andre Dias upon the occasion of his designation as the 2016
Junior Firefighter of the Year by the Mineola Junior Fire Department;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Junior Firefighter Andre Dias.
