LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Ron Canterino upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Victor V. Allegretti Memorial Man of
the Year Award by the American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational
Facilities, Inc. on April 10, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Ron Canterino has given not only of his time and energies but
also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently has
been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Ron Canteri-
no upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Victor V.
Allegretti Memorial Man of the Year Award by American Legion Kings Coun-
ty Youth Recreational Facilities, Inc. to be celebrated at its 22nd
Annual Baseball Fundraiser on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Gargiulo's
Restaurant, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facilities,
Inc. provides and maintains baseball fields for use by neighborhood
youth organizations and schools in Brooklyn, New York, allowing thou-
sands of children to play baseball in a clean and safe environment at no
cost to them or their families; and
WHEREAS, A proud life-long resident of Brooklyn, New York, Ron Canter-
ino was raised on the South side and attended St. John's Preparatory
School, P.S. 10 and William F. Grady High School; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Ron Canterino got a job with the New York
Telephone Company, now known as Verizon, where he served his co-workers
as Shop Steward; his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his peers
procured his election to the position of Secretary-Treasurer for CWA
Brooklyn Local 1109; and
WHEREAS, A true Union man, Ron Canterino is currently employed by the
Communication Workers of America, AFL-CIO, District One National Office;
and
WHEREAS, Ron Canterino has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, For almost four decades, Ron Canterino has been an active
member of the Knights of Columbus, Flatbush Council 497, where he holds
the rank of 4th degree Knight; he also serves as a Trustee and held the
title of Deputy Grand Knight; and
WHEREAS, When Flatbush Council 497 celebrated its 100th Anniversary,
Ron Canterino was proudly named its 2000 Man of the Year; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his work with the Knights of Columbus, Ron
Canterino has served as the President of the Flatlands Christian Center
for the past 18 years; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to the people he represents and the community he
lives in, Ron Canterino has tirelessly given back to his neighbors; he
has been involved in efforts to raise money for several organizations
including the St. Rose Cancer Home, Toys for Tots, and Supplies for
Soldiers; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Ron Canterino and his wife, Debra, daughter,
Lauren, and friend Brandon, spearheaded a campaign to help those
affected by Superstorm Sandy; the group organized a food, clothing and
supply drive and delivered the collected items to the victims of this
natural disaster; and
WHEREAS, Under Ron Canterino's guidance, the Knights of Columbus,
Flatbush Council 497 was open 24 hours a day, seven days a week to help

its neighbors by offering hearty meals, a place to get information or
simply to get warm; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Ron Canterino has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Debra; his two daugh-
ters, Danielle and Lauren; son-in-law, Damian; granddaughter, Danica;
his mother, Angie, and in-laws, Sal and Connie; as well as his many
friends, the Hepcats and Hepettes, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Ron Canterino has displayed through-
out his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Ron Canterino upon the occasion of his designation as recipient
of the Victor V. Allegretti Memorial Man of the Year Award; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ron Canterino.
