LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Bill Bannister upon the occasion
of celebrating his 103rd Birthday

WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Nation
and Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Bill Bannister of Dunkirk, New York, upon the occasion of celebrat-
ing his 103rd Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Bill Bannister was born on November 29, 1912, in Dunkirk, New
York, to loving parents, William and Sophie Bannister; and
WHEREAS, Bill Bannister attended Dunkirk Public Schools and would go
on to work for the Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation until being draft-
ed to join the United States Navy during World War II; he bravely served
his Nation to preserve our freedoms and way of life aboard the USS
Doyle; and
WHEREAS, Following the end of the war, Bill Bannister returned to the
Allegheny Ludlum Steel Corporation where he would retire in 1972; and
WHEREAS, In 1938, Bill Bannister married the love of his life,
Florence, and together they were the proud parents of two children,
Thomas Bannister and Marilyn Panek; and
WHEREAS, Bill Bannister is the loving grandfather of Rachel Thomas and
Robert Bannister; he has been further blessed with four great-grandchil-
dren, Lauren, Emma, Brooke, Nicole and special niece and God Child,
Gloria Yeager; and
WHEREAS, Bill Bannister has always enjoyed spending time on his 1955
Lyman Boat, which he kept in pristine condition, and fishing with his
children; in 2015, his family, out of the kindness of their hearts,
donated his boat to the Bemus Point Boat Museum; and
WHEREAS, Bill Bannister has reached an impressive milestone and feels
the secret to a long healthy life begins with luck and a glass of red
wine each night; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a remark-
able age and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural
developments, and awesome achievements of this country during the last
century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Bill Bannister upon the occasion of celebrating his 103rd
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bill Bannister.
