LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Michael N. Connors upon the occasion
of his designation as recipient of the Thomas Colasanto Humanitarian
Award by the American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facilities,
Inc. on April 10, 2016
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Michael N. Connors has given not only of his time and ener-
gies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Michael N.
Connors upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Thomas
Colasanto Humanitarian Award by American Legion Kings County Youth
Recreational Facilities, Inc. to be celebrated at its 22nd Annual Base-
ball Fundraiser on Sunday, April 10, 2016, at Gargiulo's Restaurant,
Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, American Legion Kings County Youth Recreational Facilities,
Inc. provides and maintains baseball fields for use by neighborhood
youth organizations and schools in Brooklyn, New York, allowing thou-
sands of children to play baseball in a clean and safe environment at no
cost to them or their families; and
WHEREAS, Born in 1950, on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, Michael N.
Connors and his family moved to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, four years later;
and
WHEREAS, After earning his bachelor's degree his 1972 from Pace
University, Michael N. Connors proudly served his country as a member of
the Military Police in the United States Army in Germany; upon his
honorable discharge, he enrolled in Brooklyn Law School, and graduated
with his Juris Doctor degree in 1979; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, Michael N. Connors opened his private practice in
Bay Ridge, and five years later, formed Connors and Sullivan, where he
specializes in Trusts and Estates Law with a strong emphasis in Estate
Planning and Elder Law; and
WHEREAS, Michael N. Connors has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Michael N. Connors devotes much of his time to educating the
community on estate planning through various seminars which focus on
asset protection and taxation; he has shared his estate planning exper-
tise with numerous churches, community centers, hospitals, and nursing
homes; and
WHEREAS, Well-respected in his field, HBO filmed Michael N. Connors'
seminar, "Elder Care and the Law" for the benefit of its employees; in
addition, Michael has regularly appeared on the cable television show
"Ask the Lawyer," a production of the Prayer Channel (now NET); he has
also appeared on CNN-NY1 News and ABC News; and
WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his Bay Ridge
community, Michael N. Connors has been the recipient of several awards
such as the Bay Ridge Community Council Annual Civic Award and he was
selected as the 2010 Bay Ridge St. Patrick's Day Parade Grand Marshal;
and
WHEREAS, For more than 15 years, Michael N. Connors served on the New
York State Governor's Advisory Committee for the Aging and the New York
State Ethics Commission Public Advisory Council for more than six years;
and
WHEREAS, Currently, Michael N. Connors serves as the Judge Advocate
General for the Catholic War Veterans, Department of New York and the
Catholic War Veterans of the United States of America, and is a vital
member of the Board of Directors of The Civil War Round Table of New
York and the Manhattan Chapter of Legatus; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Michael N. Connors has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, and his son, both of
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Michael N. Connors has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Michael N. Connors upon the occasion of his designation as
recipient of the Thomas Colasanto Humanitarian Award; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael N. Connors.
