LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Margaret E. Brown upon the occa-
sion of celebrating her 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Margaret E. Brown was born on March 28, 1916; and
WHEREAS, A native of Tonawanda, New York, Margaret E. Brown has given
not only of her time and energies but also of her competence, intelli-
gence and leadership for numerous years; and
WHEREAS, For two decades, Margaret E. Brown served as a volunteer at
the former Millard Fillmore Gates Circle Hospital in Buffalo, New York;
a true philanthropist, she then assisted with the Channel 4 "Call 4
Action" program for almost 10 years; and
WHEREAS, Since 2007, Margaret E. Brown has been proudly volunteering
as a cashier in the gift shop at Kenmore Mercy Hospital; as the hospi-
tal's first-ever 100-year-old volunteer, she is a great representative
of how volunteering benefits senior citizens; and
WHEREAS, In her role as cashier, Margaret E. Brown enjoys meeting and
helping all of the people who come into the shop; her work helps her to
stay healthy, promotes positive social and family relationships and
contributes to a positive image of seniors as a healthy and vital party
of society; and
WHEREAS, When Margaret E. Brown is not working at Kenmore Mercy Hospi-
tal, she enjoys spending time with her family and with her friends at
the Town of Tonawanda Senior Center; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by her husband, Kenneth, with her throughout have
been her son, Michael, three grandchildren, and seven great-grandchil-
dren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and rejoice
in her accomplishments; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Margaret E. Brown upon the occasion of celebrating her
100th Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Margaret E. Brown.
