LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating the Heuvelton Central School Girls
Basketball Team upon the occasion of capturing the 2016 New York State
Class D Championship

WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can only be
achieved through strenuous practice, team play, and team spirit,
nurtured by dedicated coaching and strategic planning; and
WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate the
Heuvelton Central School Girls Basketball Team upon the occasion of
capturing the New York State Class D Championship for the second year in
a row; and
WHEREAS, Heuvelton won the 2016 Class D Championship in a close game
over the Panama Central School Panthers by a score of 62-60, at Hudson
Valley Community College in Troy, New York, on Sunday, March 13, 2016;
and
WHEREAS, Heuvelton is the first repeat New York State Champion since
2008; and
WHEREAS, The athletic talent displayed by this team is due in great
part to the dedication of their many family, fans, friends, and the
community at large, who came out in force to cheer the Heuvelton Central
School Girls Basketball Team to victory, and who loyally and enthusi-
astically supported the team throughout their season; and
WHEREAS, The team finished the year with a perfect 28-0 record,
winning the Section X Championship and their second New York State Title
in a row; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, the team members have proven
themselves to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favor-
ably on their school; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those high school athletes who have achieved notable success in
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate the Heuvelton Central School Girls Basketball Team; its
members: Pattie Paramesthanakorn, Eliza Martin, Alyssa Johnson, Alexan-
dra Steele, Karina Warren, Paige Weston, Kristi Donnelly, Nathalie Barr,
Paige McCormick, Jaelin Calkins, Hannah Thornhill, Gabrielle Johnson,
Kedan Mack, Madison McCormick, Carin Sherwood and Kelsey Williams, and
Coach Rob Powers, Assistant Coach Austin Weakfall, and Activity Director
David Steele on their outstanding season and overall team record; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the members of the Heuvelton Central School Girls Basketball
Team, Coach Rob Powers, Assistant Coach Austin Weakfall, and Activity
Director David Steele.
