LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Robin Sigman upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Education Foundation on April
15, 2016
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Robin Sigman
upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the
Education Foundation, to be celebrated with a Gala on Friday, April 15,
2016, at the Village Club of Sands Point; and
WHEREAS, A proud third generation resident of Port Washington, Robin
Sigman credits her parents for instilling in her a love for her communi-
ty, of learning and of volunteering; she began her volunteerism when her
children were small, co-chairing the Parents As Reading Partners Program
at John Philip Sousa Elementary School for eight years; and
WHEREAS, In 2001, Robin Sigman attended the second meeting of the
Education Foundation's steering committee, and has been actively
involved ever since; as the first Vice President of Grants, she created
and implemented the grant application, evaluation and award process and
coordinated and led the annual grant awards ceremony; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Robin Sigman created much of the early marketing
materials and worked with major donors and school personnel to develop
long-term programs for Schreiber High School including WDOT Radio, the
Robotics program, and the Slade Performing Arts Center; and
WHEREAS, As the Immediate Past President, Robin Sigman serves on the
executive board of the Education Foundation, and continues to volunteer
on a regular basis at its Support Center; she also does freelance writ-
ing and consulting work, including a project to implement a Youth
Philanthropy Initiative for the Hagedorn Foundation, and is co-chair of
the Women's Fund of Long Island Young Women's Leader Award committee;
and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, David, and their
two children, Eddie and Sarah, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Robin Sigman has displayed through-
out her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Robin Sigman upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Education Foundation on April 15, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Robin Sigman.
