LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Claudia Rouhana upon the occasion of her
designation for special recognition by the Education Foundation on April
15, 2016

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Claudia Rouha-
na upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by the
Education Foundation, to be celebrated with a Gala on Friday, April 15,
2016, at the Village Club of Sands Point; and
WHEREAS, As the third president of The Education Foundation, Claudia
Rouhana has been involved with the organization since its inception in
2001; and
WHEREAS, Claudia Rouhana began her community service when, as a new
mother, she became involved with the Parent Resource Center; in the
early 1990s, she served as a board member and President of the Port
Washington Children's Center, which led to her presidency of the Child
Care Council of Nassau County; and
WHEREAS, In addition, during this time, Claudia Rouhana was an active
member of the PTA at Guggenheim and Manorhaven Elementary Schools, and
went on to become PTA President at Weber Middle School; she also served
on Parents' Council and the school district's Cultural Arts Committee;
and
WHEREAS, Claudia Rouhana's involvement in Port Washington is only the
beginning of her steadfast and unwavering commitment to the community;
she has remained an active alumna of Colby College where she has served
as an Overseer for six years; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Claudia Rouhana has sat on the board of the
Optometric Center of New York, where she later became President; she is
also involved in the Ozymandias Fund of the Tides Foundation and the New
England Society in the City of New York; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed woman is currently a member of the board of the
Port Washington Library Foundation, is an active member and past presi-
dent of the Sands Point Garden Club; she was honored in 2012 by Communi-
ty Chest as their Citizen of the Year in recognition of her longtime
dedication to helping others in Port Washington and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Claudia Rouhana has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Claudia Rouhana upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Education Foundation on April 15, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Claudia Rouhana.
