LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Leif Eric-
son Day School on April 29, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those institutions of true purpose and high achievement whose
exemplary programs and accomplishments clearly demonstrate an enduring
pursuit of excellence in education for the youth of this noble Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of Leif Ericson Day School, to be celebrated
on Friday, April 29, 2016, at Dyker Beach Golf Club, Brooklyn, New York;
and
WHEREAS, Leif Ericson Day School is a non-profit educational institu-
tion incorporated under the laws of the State of New York and an Abso-
lute Charter granted by the Board of Regents of the State Education
Department; and
WHEREAS, A rostered elementary school of the Evangelical Lutheran
Church in America, Leif Ericson Day School had its beginning in 1965, at
Salem Lutheran Church in Brooklyn, New York; in 1973, the school relo-
cated to Bethany Lutheran Church's parish education building; and
WHEREAS, In the fall of 2008, Leif Ericson Day School became an organ-
izational unit of the Metropolitan New York Synod of the Evangelical
Lutheran Church in America, supporting it as a quality school with Luth-
eran emphasis and affiliation; and
WHEREAS, Remaining true to its mission as a quality educational minis-
try, Leif Ericson Day School nurtures the whole person in a safe envi-
ronment, integrating academic excellence and spiritual formation, and
equipping servant leaders for the 21st century; and
WHEREAS, As a Christian community of learning, Leif Ericson Day School
is deeply committed to its mission and strives for excellence in
progressive education; in addition, its shared purpose is built around
learning, working, and praying together; and
WHEREAS, Leif Ericson Day School also celebrates the wondrous diversi-
ty of cultures, languages, and gifts, and fairness and equality are
central ethical principles; and
WHEREAS, The steadfast and unyielding commitment of parents, educators
and administrators to provide the highest quality education for students
has become the hallmark and tradition of the Leif Ericson Day School;
and
WHEREAS, Within the 21st Century, Leif Ericson Day School stands
prepared to reach out, in earnest and enthusiastic quest of its mission,
to promote the maximum growth of every student, establishing standards
and building skills which will carry its students and the citizens of
its community into the future; and
WHEREAS, Leif Ericson Day School is proudly aware of its distinguished
past, eager to fulfill its present commitment to parents, students and
the community, and planning with vision and purpose for the ebb and
swell of growth and change it will encounter in the years to come; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Leif Ericson Day School on April 29,
2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Leif Ericson Day School.
