LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH upon the occa-
sion of his designation for special recognition by SUNY Downstate
Medical Center on April 9, 2016
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by SUNY Downstate Medical Center at its Celebrate Downstate
2016 event on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at The Plaza Hotel, New York, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bruce Siegel is being honored for his outstanding
achievements and commitment to humanitarian service which have advanced
medicine and transformed lives locally, nationally, and internationally;
and
WHEREAS, For over 130 years, SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brook-
lyn, New York, has strived to provide outstanding education of physi-
cians, scientists, nurses and other healthcare professionals; advanced
knowledge through cutting edge research and translated it into practice;
cared for and improved the lives of its globally diverse communities;
and fostered an environment which embraces cultural diversity; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Bruce Siegel earned his bachelor's degree from Princeton
University and his Doctor of Medicine from Cornell University Medical
College; he furthered his education by obtaining his Master of Public
Health from The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public
Health; and
WHEREAS, Since joining America's Essential Hospitals in 2010, Dr.
Bruce Siegel has guided the association toward realizing its strategic
vision of helping members transform into integrated delivery systems and
leaders in access and quality; in addition, this vital medical institu-
tion works to secure sustainable funding for essential hospitals, which
fill a safety net role in their communities; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Dr. Bruce Siegel has helped shape the
association's work in advocacy, member support, and quality, as well as
led the launch of the Transformation Center, a catalyst for innovative
change to improve quality and safety and a part of the Essential Hospi-
tals Institute, the association's research arm; and
WHEREAS, Under Dr. Siegel's luminous leadership, America's Essential
Hospitals established the nation's first safety net quality network
under the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services' Partnership for
Patients; through this Essential Hospitals Engagement Network, associ-
ation members collaborate to improve safety and help eliminate care
disparities for vulnerable patients; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by SUNY Downstate Medical Center on April 9, 2016;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Bruce Siegel, MD, MPH.
