LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Eli Friedman, MD, MACP upon the occa-
sion of his designation for special recognition by SUNY Downstate
Medical Center on April 9, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly commend
those outstanding individuals within the State of New York whose life-
long dedication to medical research has resulted in groundbreaking
discoveries which have improved the lives of those affected by the
world's most devastating diseases; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Eli Friedman, MD, MACP upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by SUNY Downstate Medical Center at its Celebrate Downstate
2016 event on Saturday, April 9, 2016, at The Plaza Hotel, New York, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Eli Friedman is being honored for his outstanding
achievements and commitment to humanitarian service which have advanced
medicine and transformed lives locally, nationally, and internationally;
and
WHEREAS, For over 130 years, SUNY Downstate Medical Center in Brook-
lyn, New York, has strived to provide outstanding education of physi-
cians, scientists, nurses and other healthcare professionals; advanced
knowledge through cutting edge research and translated it into practice;
cared for and improved the lives of its globally diverse communities;
and fostered an environment which embraces cultural diversity; and
WHEREAS, A native of Brooklyn, New York, Dr. Eli Friedman's excep-
tional contributions to the field of nephrology have advanced the quali-
ty of renal medicine within not only New York State, but throughout the
Nation and across the globe; and
WHEREAS, An internationally renowned Nephrologist, Dr. Friedman estab-
lished the first hemodialysis facility in New York City at SUNY Down-
state Medical Center in 1963; and
WHEREAS, Today, this important medical pioneer, holds the position of
Distinguished Teaching Professor of Medicine, Division of Nephrology at
SUNY Downstate Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, As a leader in his profession, Dr. Eli Friedman has proven
himself to be a great asset to medicine and to the health and welfare of
the citizens of the State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Eli Friedman, MD, MACP upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by SUNY Downstate Medical Center on April 9, 2016;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Eli Friedman, MD, MACP.
