LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Michael Finnerty upon the occasion of
his designation as the 2016 Hamburg Town Rink Adult Volunteer of the
Year by SABAH, the Skating Association for the Blind and Handicapped

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Michael
Finnerty upon the occasion of his designation as the 2016 Hamburg Town
Rink Adult Volunteer of the Year by SABAH (Skating Association for the
Blind and Handicapped); and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, SABAH assists people of all ages and abilities in developing
and achieving personal goals through various sports opportunities; these
individuals are given the resources and support to experience success
and to become proud of their capabilities through its many special needs
sports programs; and
WHEREAS, With a steadfast and unwavering commitment to helping others,
Michael Finnerty volunteers with SABAH every Saturday, during which time
he enthusiastically engages and provides tremendous support to the
athletes; he continues to bring his good natured sense of humor and fun
to the program at Hamburg Town Rink; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Michael Finnerty also supports SABAH by engaging
his children, Brian and Katie, as volunteers in the program; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism promotes family and community solidarity; most
importantly, people who volunteer their time in civic and charitable
endeavors inspire others to the call of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Michael Finnerty has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Michael Finnerty upon the occasion of his designation as the 2016
Hamburg Town Rink Adult Volunteer of the Year by SABAH; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Michael Finnerty.
