LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Retired Police Chief Robert Wolfgang
upon the occasion of his induction into the 2016 Albany Police Athletic
League Hall of Fame
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Retired
Police Chief Robert Wolfgang upon the occasion of his induction into the
2016 Albany Police Athletic League Hall of Fame to be celebrated at its
Breakfast of Champions event held on Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at the
Albany Marriot, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Robert Wolfgang was born and raised in Albany, New York, and
attended Albany High School; he joined the Albany Police Department in
1971 as part of a federally funded neighborhood policing program; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, Robert Wolfgang ably served and protected the
citizens of his community, as he rose through the ranks of the Albany
Police Department and developed new initiatives to better police the
community; and
WHEREAS, In 1987, Officer Robert Wolfgang coordinated the formation of
a group of Albany "Stakeholders" to investigate the needs and develop-
ment of a Police Athletic League; this led to the creation of the Albany
PAL, as it would come to be known; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to engaging the youth of the City of Albany, the
PAL program was founded by sworn members of the Albany Police Depart-
ment, under the direction of an independent Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, Originally designed to provide supervised recreational,
educational and social programs to youth in grades five through eight on
non-school days, the program Chief Robert Wolfgang helped found has
grown to become a full scale youth services provider with more than
2,500 young people participating in various programming throughout the
year; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Chief Robert Wolfgang has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Retired Police Chief Robert Wolfgang upon the occasion of his
induction into the 2016 Albany Police Athletic League Hall of Fame; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Retired Police Chief Robert Wolfgang.
