LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Harrison and Marissa Burack upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the Herbert A. Applebaum
and Lenore Bellin Memorial Awards by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish
Community Center

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Harrison and Marissa Burack upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Herbert A. Applebaum and Lenore Bellin Memorial Awards
by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center, to be celebrated at
its 16th Annual Pillars of the Community Awards Brunch on Sunday, April
17, 2016, at Congregation Beth Abraham Jacob, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year, the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center
(JCC) presents this prestigious award to high school seniors who have
demonstrated outstanding leadership at the Center, synagogue, school and
community; and
WHEREAS, Since the age of two, brother and sister team Harrison and
Marissa Burack have been members of the Sidney Albert Albany JCC,
getting an early start in Rompers and Nursery School, developing life-
long friendships and skills through years in camp and as members of the
Arrows Swim Team, Teen Camp and Lifeguard staff, and medalists in the
JCC Maccabi games; and
WHEREAS, With steadfast and unwavering dedication to helping others,
Harrison and Marissa Burack also give tirelessly of their time and ener-
gies to the Center's 60 plus Dining Program, a commitment which began in
2010; and
WHEREAS, The children of Scott and Cheryl Burack, Harrison and Marissa
Burack are members of Congregation Ohav Shalom where they lead Shabbat
services, and both participate in Congregation Beth Emeth Youth Group;
and
WHEREAS, Harrison Burack is very committed to his role as teacher's
aide at B'Yachad, the Hebrew school of Temple Israel and Congregation
B'nai Shalom; he has also volunteered with the Town of Colonie Youth
Court, Albany County Regional Food Bank and St. Peter's Hospital; and
WHEREAS, At Guilderland High, Harrison Burack is active in student
government, a member of the National Honor Society and Guilderland Play-
ers stage crew, and assists with the school's sports broadcasting and IT
help desk; he is a graduate of Hebrew Academy and aspires to become a
Software Engineer at Worcester Polytechnic Institute; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Hebrew Academy, Marissa Burack is president of
Guilderland High School's student government, a track athlete, a member
of the National Honor Society and has been a high school student repre-
sentative for the Guilderland Board of Education; and
WHEREAS, Marissa Burack has also volunteered with the Town of Colonie
Youth Court, Regional Food Bank and is a recipient of the Sage College
Recognition Award and Guilderland Board of Education Academic Achieve-
ment Award; she will be attending the Honors Program as a Presidential
Scholar at Bentley University for Business and Mathematics; and
WHEREAS, With their sense of civic duty and their commitment to
others, Harrison and Marissa Burack represent the best development of
the potential which is inherent in our most precious resource, our
youth; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Harrison and Marissa Burack upon the occasion of their designation
as recipients of the Herbert A. Applebaum and Lenore Bellin Memorial
Awards by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Harrison and Marissa Burack.
