LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Richard and Kathy Kotlow upon the occa-
sion of their designation as recipients of the Pillars of the Community
Award by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Community Center

WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Richard and
Kathy Kotlow upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of the
Pillars of the Community Award by the Sidney Albert Albany Jewish Commu-
nity Center, to be celebrated at its 16th Annual Pillars of the Communi-
ty Awards Brunch on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Congregation Beth Abraham
Jacob, Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Each year, this prestigious awards ceremony recognizes indi-
viduals for their contributions to the Center and the Jewish community-
at-large by acting as moral pillars and dispensers of wisdom and advice,
providing continued service and leadership, and acting generously in the
spirit of Tzedakah; and
WHEREAS, Residents of Slingerlands, New York, Richard and Kathy Kotlow
have made significant contributions which have had a positive and last-
ing impact on the community and the organizations at which they have
served; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his accomplished career as a licensed CPA with
UHY Advisors New York, Richard Kotlow has devoted many years to public
service including past board member and treasurer at the Sidney Albert
Albany Jewish Community Center (JCC); past treasurer and current chair
elect for the Schenectady County Community College Foundation; past
president and current executive committee member and membership chair of
the 50 Group; past board chair and current treasurer for Albany County
Convention and Visitors Bureau; organizing board member and treasurer of
the Downtown Albany Business Improvement District; member of Bethlehem
2000; and member of the Bethlehem Microenterprise Grant Application
Review Committee; and
WHEREAS, Richard Kotlow was also inducted into Junior Achievement of
Northeastern New York's Tech Valley Hall of Fame and is an annual
instructor for the Bethlehem Middle School; his 17-year term with the
Sidney Albert Albany JCC board provided invaluable business and finan-
cial expertise during some very critical times; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Albany High School and the University of Massa-
chusetts, Richard Kotlow began his illustrious career at UHY in 1972;
over the years he has held many leadership positions including partner
and shareholder; managing partner for the Albany office; and
President/CEO of UHY Advisors New York; he has also served on the boards
of UHY Advisors Inc. and UHY International; and
WHEREAS, Kathy Kotlow, a retired registered nurse, spent many years as
Director of Nursing and Compliance Supervisor for multiple home health
care agencies where she earned wide respect in the profession from both
providers and regulatory agencies; and
WHEREAS, A steadfast volunteer, Kathy Kotlow has participated on vari-
ous committees at both the Sidney Albert Albany JCC and Congregation
Beth Emeth, and has assisted the Slingerlands School with many events;
she has dedicated her life to her immediate and extended family as well

as her many interests which include travel, gardening, interior design
and crafting; and
WHEREAS, With them throughout have been their three children Karyn
(Dan), Eric (Colleen) and Michael, as well as their three grandchildren,
Lucy, Keeting and Joseph, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of
their lives and rejoice in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Richard and Kathy Kotlow have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Richard and Kathy Kotlow upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the Pillars of the Community Award by the Sidney Albert
Albany Jewish Community Center; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Richard and Kathy Kotlow.
