LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Douglas Jablon upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by Housing and Family Services
of Greater New York, Inc. on June 16, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals and organizations which would devote themselves to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Douglas Jablon upon the occasion of his designation for special recogni-
tion by Housing and Family Services of Greater New York, Inc. to be
celebrated at its 26th Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, June 16, 2016,
at Rex Manor, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, For more than four decades, Housing and Family Services of
Greater New York, Inc., formerly known as Brooklyn Housing & Family
Services, has been assisting and educating tenants, building owners, and
community leaders; through its Tenant Committees, the organization has
successfully initiated building improvements and combated the deteri-
oration of housing stock in its Borough; and
WHEREAS, Since 1971, Housing and Family Services of Greater New York,
Inc. has strived to stabilize neighborhoods and preserve the quality of
housing in its community; during the last few years, it has expanded the
scope of its program dramatically, attempting to bond a newer, stronger
cooperation between tenants and building owners; and
WHEREAS, In 1989, Douglas Jablon was given the monumental task of
developing a Patient Relations Department at Maimonides Medical Center;
through his hard work and steadfast efforts, the Patient Relations
Services has grown into a nationally recognized department and acts as a
model for other medical centers in and around the Tri-state area; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Douglas Jablon serves as the Special Assistant to
the President and Senior Vice President of the Patient Relations Depart-
ment; under his luminous leadership, the staff of the Patient Relations
Department is dedicated to patient and family needs and concerns, serv-
ing as the patient's voice to administration by providing a safe envi-
ronment, quality and cost effective services in response to and based on
the identified patient's needs, and ultimately ensure that the patients
are satisfied with their care; and
WHEREAS, Patient Representatives are responsible for educating both
inpatient and outpatients, families, staff and the community on
Patient's Rights, Advance Directives, and the myriad of additional
services provided by the Patient Relations Department and Maimonides
Medical Center; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Patient Representative Services are provided 24
hours per day, seven days per week, including holidays; the majority of
the Patient Representatives are bi-lingual, some multilingual, with
expertise in Yiddish, Spanish, Italian, Russian, Cantonese, Mandarin,
French, Creole, German, Hebrew, Urdu, and Arabic; and
WHEREAS, The committed staff are also involved with their community by
coordinating outreach programs including symposiums, health fairs,
screenings, and various events which advertise the Patient Relations
Department's services and offer education to individuals based on their
specific needs; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Douglas Jablon has displayed
throughout his life; and

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Douglas Jablon upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by Housing and Family Services of Greater New York, Inc.;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Douglas Jablon.
