LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION expressing sincerest, heartfelt condolences to
the victims of the horrific crash involving a Metro-North commuter train
and an SUV in Valhalla, New York, on February 3, 2015

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to recognize the devastating
tragedy involving a Metro-North commuter train and a disabled SUV
stopped on the tracks which claimed the life of six innocent people and
injured 15 others; and
WHEREAS, On Tuesday, February 3, 2015, a Metro-North train departed
from Grand Central Station carrying 650 commuters; shortly before
7:00pm, the commuter train approached a railroad crossing with an SUV
stopped on the tracks; and
WHEREAS, Unable to brake in time, the Metro-North train collided with
the SUV, prompting a fiery collision, which resulted in the deadliest
crash in Metro-North Railroad's 32-year history; and
WHEREAS, The victims of this unthinkable tragedy include: Ellen Brody,
Eric Vandercar, Walter Liedtke, Joseph Nadol, Robert Dirks, and Aditya
Tomar; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body, representing the
people from the State of New York, to offer its deepest sympathies to
the families and loved ones of the victims whose lives were taken too
soon, and to provide its genuine support to the families and loved ones
of the survivors during this difficult time of grief and sorrow; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to pay just tribute to the
lives of the six victims with a moment of silence in the Chamber of the
New York State Senate, knowing their memory will forever remain with
their families and their loss will be deeply felt by many; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
express sincerest, heartfelt condolences to the victims of the horrific
crash involving a Metro-North commuter train and an SUV in Valhalla, New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the families of the victims.
