LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Christina Wilkinson upon the occasion
of her designation for special recognition by the Queens Civic Congress,
Inc. on April 17, 2016
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Christina Wilkinson has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Christina
Wilkinson upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition
by the Queens Civic Congress, Inc., to be celebrated at its Biennial
Civic Luncheon on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Antun's Caterers in Queens
Village, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious event brings together over 200 civic leaders
representing all of Queens, New York, as well as notable federal, state
and city officials; and
WHEREAS, The Queens Civic Congress, Inc. is proud to recognize Christ-
ina Wilkinson for her substantial role as a community leader; she has
continuously cast a positive impact on her community and displayed an
unbridled enthusiasm in all her civic endeavors; and
WHEREAS, A fifth generation resident of Queens, Christina Wilkinson is
originally from the Maspeth area and currently resides in the Ridgewood
section; and
WHEREAS, A prolific author, Christina Wilkinson has written articles
about several Queens neighborhoods such as Woodside, Sunnyside,
Winfield, Corona, Middle Village, Glendale and Ridgewood for the website
Forgotten New York; in addition, she holds the position of Assistant
Editor of the JUNIPER BERRY, a quarterly magazine published by the Juni-
per Park Civic Association; and
WHEREAS, Christina Wilkinson has been called upon to contribute her
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of herself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, A valued and involved member of her community, Christina
Wilkinson serves as Chair of the Juniper Park Civic Association's
Committee to Save St. Saviour's Church, leading a citywide educational
effort about the importance of the Richard Upjohn-designed chapel and
the historical figures connected to it; and
WHEREAS, In 2007, Christina Wilkinson co-founded the Newtown Histor-
ical Society and has been its President ever since; currently, she
serves as the communications officer for the COMET civic association
(Communities of Maspeth and Elmhurst Together) and as a board member of
the Queens County Farm Museum; and
WHEREAS, A devoted public servant, Christina Wilkinson has been deeply
involved in several campaigns including protecting the Ridgewood Reser-
voir from development, working to stop the construction of a megamall
inside Flushing Meadows-Corona Park, assisting with the effort to
preserve the Brinckerhoff Cemetery and working with Elmhurst United in
calling attention to issues regarding the Pan Am homeless shelter; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Christina Wilkinson assists on a wide array of
quality-of-life issues from improving railroad safety to graffiti
removal; she is also diligently working to help the 281-year-old St.
James Church of Elmhurst achieve official New York City landmark status;
and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Christina Wilkinson has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Christina Wilkinson has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Christina Wilkinson upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Queens Civic Congress, Inc. on April 17,
2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Christina Wilkinson.
