LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Girls High School Alumnae Associ-
ation, Elsie Barrow-Pitts Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. upon the occa-
sion of hosting its Annual Scholarship Luncheon on April 23, 2016

WHEREAS, Organizations which serve the interests of the people of this
Empire State merit the commendation of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend the Girls
High School Alumnae Association, Elsie Barrow-Pitts Memorial Scholarship
Fund, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its Annual Scholarship Luncheon
to be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016, at the Bethany Baptist Church
Fellowship Hall, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Girls High School Alumnae Association, Elsie Barrow-Pitts
Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc., is a non-profit organization guided by
the mission of awarding annual scholarships to graduating seniors of
Boys and Girls High School; and
WHEREAS, Several outstanding graduates such as Roxy Roker, Shirley
Chisholm, Lucille Rose, and Adelaide Sanford, have graduated from the
Girls High School; and
WHEREAS, Today, the Girls High School Alumnae Association, Elsie
Barrow-Pitts Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc., is under the luminous
leadership of Gemmel Cunningham, President; Pearl Jones, Vice President;
Janet L. Gay, Treasurer; Joan Withington, Recording Secretary; Wilma E.
Maynard, Corresponding Secretary; Gloria E. Boyce, Laura F. Haughton,
Wilhelmina Lee, Eltima Maharaj, Glenys Pantaleon and Fannie Porter,
members of the Board of Directors; and
WHEREAS, For many years the success of the Girls High School Alumnae
Association has been in direct correlation to the efforts of its
members, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by an
impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising
standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of its community; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body, that when organ-
izations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Girls High School Alumnae Association, Elsie Barrow-Pitts
Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc. upon the occasion of hosting its Annual
Scholarship Luncheon; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gemmel Cunningham, President, Girls High School Alumnae Asso-
ciation, Elsie Barrow-Pitts Memorial Scholarship Fund, Inc.
