LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Peggy and Leo Hetling upon the occasion
of their designation as recipients of the 2016 Volunteers of the Year
Award by The Food Pantries for the Capital District on May 7, 2016
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to call attention to
the dedicated efforts of those individuals from across the State of New
York who volunteer their time and energies in service to the community;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Peggy and Leo Hetling upon the occasion of their designation as recipi-
ents of the 2016 Volunteers of the Year Award by The Food Pantries for
the Capital District to be celebrated at its 22nd Annual Community
Auction on Saturday, May 7, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Working together to feed the hungry since 1979, The Food
Pantries for the Capital District is a coalition of 53 food pantries
located in Albany, Rensselaer and Saratoga Counties; annually, The Food
Pantries helps fund, collect and deliver nearly 2 million pounds of food
for its member pantries, which provides approximately 2.5 million meals;
and
WHEREAS, The Food Pantries for the Capital District supports its
member pantries by providing service coordination, education, training,
opportunities for networking, infant needs and holiday meal programs;
and
WHEREAS, Volunteers with St. John's/St. Ann's Outreach Center Food
Pantry for over 20 years, Peggy and Leo Hetling have selflessly contrib-
uted their time and energies to helping others and are a shining example
of the spirit of volunteerism; and
WHEREAS, An efficient team, Peggy and Leo Hetling have faithfully and
graciously served those within their community by organizing, interview-
ing and entering information on the computer for the holiday program at
St. John's/St. Ann's Outreach Center Food Pantry; with a friendly smile
and positive attitude, they are always ready and willing to lend a hand
when it is needed; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Peggy Hetling serves as the Pantry's Reception-
ist twice a month and sorts and packs produce for homebound clients, as
well as helps at the Welcome Table; computer savvy, Leo Hetling keeps
the database up to date, and problem solves technical issues; he also
works on various fundraising events such as Friend's Appeal; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Peggy and Leo Hetling have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Peggy and Leo Hetling have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Peggy and Leo Hetling upon the occasion of their designation as
recipients of the 2016 Volunteers of the Year Award by The Food Pantries
for the Capital District on May 7, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Peggy and Leo Hetling.
