LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring TEAM Newburgh upon the occasion of its
designation as recipient of the Human Rights Award by the Orange County
Human Rights Commission
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor TEAM Newburgh
upon the occasion of its designation as recipient of the Human Rights
Award by the Orange County Human Rights Commission on April 21, 2016, to
be celebrated at its 21st Annual Awards Dinner on Thursday, April 21,
2016, at The Fountains of Wallkill, Middletown, New York; and
WHEREAS, TEAM Newburgh, is a community-based collaborative of 115
partners working to improve and enhancing the quality of life in the
City of Newburgh, New York, by forging relationships among diverse
groups of area residents; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping young people, TEAM Newburgh has worked
closely with government officials, human service agencies and law
enforcement to introduce legislation that was ultimately passed in the
City of Newburgh to remove tobacco and drug paraphernalia from visible
exposure in stores; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this remarkable organization has brought young
people, volunteers, service agencies, and local businesses together for
the past six years at an annual summer fishing trip at Lake Washington
to benefit youth from the City of Newburgh Recreation Department's
summer camp and the Youth Empowerment Center; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, TEAM Newburgh's members strongly believe in the
benefits of public outreach and community relations, and can be
frequently found walking City streets to inform residents of the many
programs and services that are available; they also attend community
meetings and have representation at numerous local events including the
farmers market at the Newburgh Armory Unity Center; and
WHEREAS, Under the leadership of Martin Colavito, Dawn Wilkin, and
Regina Cieslak of lead agency, Catholic Charities, TEAM Newburgh will
continue to strive to improve the well-being and vitality of its commu-
nity for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission, TEAM Newburgh has
demonstrated the value of embracing diversity to create a better world
for all; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor TEAM Newburgh upon the occasion of its designation as recipients
of the Human Rights Award by the Orange County Human Rights Commission
on April 21, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Martin Colavito, Dawn Wilkin, and Regina Cieslak, TEAM
Newburgh.
