LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Todd DuMond upon the occasion of
his designation as a recipient of the Next Generation Farmer Award from
the New York State Agricultural Society
WHEREAS, The agricultural industry is part of the foundation upon which
our distinct American heritage is built; New York State and the entire
United States are dependent on our agricultural industry for a variety
of food products; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those family-owned farms which substantially contribute
to the economic vitality of their communities and the entire Empire
State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Todd DuMond upon the occasion of his designation as a recipient of
the Next Generation Farmer Award from the New York State Agricultural
Society; and
WHEREAS, The New York State Agricultural Society's Next Generation
Farmer Award recognizes the accomplishments of successful next gener-
ation farmers; and
WHEREAS, Todd DuMond, the son of Eric and Marge DuMond, is a graduate
of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology; he has successfully over-
seen DuMond Ag, an agricultural operation his parents started in Union
Springs, New York, in 1985; and
WHEREAS, Since returning to his family's farm in 2003, Todd DuMond has
fostered significant growth and expansion at DuMond Ag, transforming a
600 acre cash crop business into a 5,000 acre farming operation; and
WHEREAS, Under Todd DuMond's able management, DuMond Ag has increased
steadily in size and diversified its business pursuits into such compa-
nies as DuMond Grain, a soybean roasting business, and DuMond Trucking,
which provides an improved transportation option for the local farm
community; and
WHEREAS, Recently, this esteemed farm operator has expanded operations
to include corn grinding to produce cornmeal as a new commodity for the
business, created a cover crop seed dealership and invested in a row
crop farming operation; and
WHEREAS, In response to the numerous difficult challenges posed by
climate change, Todd DuMond practices a variety of conservation methods
which emphasize the use of precision agriculture; he has utilized cover
crops, spatial soil analysis, reduced tillage and narrow-row planting,
as well numerous other sustainable practices to protect soil and water
resources; and
WHEREAS, An integral part of the farming community, Todd DuMond is a
longtime member of the New York State Corn and Soybean Growers Associ-
ation Board, and has served as a New York State representative to the
American Soybean Association for 9 years; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Todd DuMond has built relationships with many local
agricultural colleges, and has hosted the Summer Crop Tour, an education
day for production agriculture for three years; and
WHEREAS, Poised with great business and scientific acumen, an entre-
preneurial spirit, and a passion for serving others, Todd DuMond will
continue to be a vital part of New York's agricultural community for
many years to come; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the success of this exceptional next generation farmer and his
contributions to the local and State economies, fully confident that he
will continue to enjoy the sparkling successes he has experienced thus
far; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Todd DuMond upon the occasion of his designation as a
recipient of the Next Generation Farmer Award from the New York State
Agricultural Society; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Todd DuMond.
