LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 10th Anniversary of Catholic
Charities Community Services of Orange County

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
individuals and organizations within the State of New York which have
shown an exceptional commitment to improving the health and well-being
of our citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 10th Anniversary of Catholic Charities Community Services of
Orange County to be observed at its Celebration of Charity Dinner on
Thursday, April 14, 2016, at Anthony's Pier 9, New Windsor, New York;
and
WHEREAS, A vital presence in Orange County for more than six decades,
Catholic Charities has continually strived throughout its history to
offer a variety of services to fulfill the needs of orphans, immigrants,
and mentally and physically ill, as well as homeless individuals and
families in crisis; and
WHEREAS, In 2005, Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange
County was formed as a separate incorporated agency combining services
formerly provided by Pius XII Youth and Family Services with those of
Catholic Charities; and
WHEREAS, Over the past decade, Catholic Charities Community Services
of Orange County has been an integral part of the care delivery system
in Orange and Sullivan Counties, and continues to strive to improve the
lives of anyone in need of care, hope, and help; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping people with substance abuse problems,
Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange County has helped more
than 3,500 individuals at its eight Chemical Dependency Clinics; its
Chemical Dependency Prevention program also provides community-outreach
and education to over 13,000 people; and
WHEREAS, This esteemed non-profit organization has also increased
utilization of chemical dependency services at the Catholic Charities
Recovery Center, and has expanded further its initiatives in Sullivan
County since assuming management of The Recovery Center in April of
2015; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange
County Case Management has provided substantial support to almost 3,300
homeless, hungry, destitute, and marginalized individuals and families;
and
WHEREAS, In 2015, Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange
County served more than 30,000 individuals and their families with such
vital initiatives as the Employee Assistance Program, the Parish Coun-
seling Network and The Housing Resource Center; and
WHEREAS, The success of Catholic Charities Community Services of
Orange County is in direct correlation to the efforts of its management
and staff, whose involvement is, and always has been, characterized by
an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncompromising
standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of this organization
and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous guidance of Executive Director Dean Scher,
Catholic Charities Community Services of Orange County has strived to
fulfill the changing needs of its community, and remains steadfast in
its commitment to serving people of all ages, races, faiths, back-
grounds, incomes and abilities for many years to come; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a

long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 10th Anniversary of Catholic Charities Community
Services of Orange County; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dean Scher, Executive Director, Catholic Charities Community
Services of Orange County.
