LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Dr. Kenneth and Eva Steadman upon the
occasion of their designation as recipients of the 2016 Springstead
Award by the Geneva Rotary Club on May 5, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kenneth and Eva Steadman have given not only of their
time and energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leader-
ship and consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Dr. Kenneth
and Eva Steadman upon the occasion of their designation as recipients of
the 2016 Springstead Award by the Geneva Rotary Club, to be celebrated
at its annual Service Above Self Dinner on Thursday, May 5, 2016, at
Club 86 in Geneva, New York; and
WHEREAS, Rotary International is a world fellowship of business and
professional people dedicated to providing community service, encourag-
ing high vocational standards and building international good will; and
WHEREAS, Established six years ago, the Geneva Rotary Club's Spring-
stead Award, is presented to individuals, such as Dr. Kenneth and Eva
Steadman who exemplify the ideals of community service; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kenneth and Eva Steadman have been called upon to
contribute their time and talents to countless civic and charitable
endeavors and have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Eva Steadman has been an active volunteer with many community
organizations, including the Geneva Public Library Board, the First
Presbyterian Church, Family Counseling of the Finger Lakes and the
Ontario Girl Scout Council; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Eva Steadman has been a member of the Geneva
Historical Society Board of Directors, including a term as president,
the Women's Volunteer Organization P.E.O., the Geneva General Hospital
Women's Auxiliary and the Finger Lakes Health Foundation Board; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Steadman has also been active in community service with
the Geneva Rotary Club and the Rotary District 7120 Youth Exchange
Program, the Presbyterian Church, the Ontario County Medical Society,
the Geneva Medical Society, the Ontario County Public Health Advisory
Committee, the Finger Lakes Health Systems Agency, the Ontario County
Community Services Board as well as the Geneva Boys and Girls Club and
the Geneva Little League; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Dr. Kenneth and Eva Steadman have
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Eva Stern and Kenneth Steadman met at Cornell University and
were married in 1960, while Kenneth was in medical school at Upstate
Medical School in Syracuse, New York; Eva Steadman worked as a recep-
tionist and assistant to a physician at the Upstate Medical Rehabili-
tation Center; she had previously been a Field Director for the Ontario
Girl Scout Council; and
WHEREAS, In 1968, after completing his residency at Strong Memorial
Hospital in Rochester, New York, Kenneth and Eva Steadman moved to Fort
Jackson, South Carolina, where Kenneth completed his military service as
an obstetrician/gynecologist in the United States Army; in 1970, they
moved to Geneva; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Kenneth and Eva Steadman have been married for 56 years,
and are the proud parents of three sons and one daughter; and

WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Dr. Kenneth and Eva Steadman have
displayed throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Dr. Kenneth and Eva Steadman upon the occasion of their desig-
nation as recipients of the 2016 Springstead Award by the Geneva Rotary
Club; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Dr. Kenneth and Eva Steadman.
