LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Firefighter Robert S. Henry upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition after 68 years of
dedicated service to the Copenhagen Fire Department
WHEREAS, The firefighters of New York State are renowned throughout the
Nation; their reputation is synonymous with excellence in the arduous
field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Since the early days of "teapot steamers," the volunteer
firefighter has been the cornerstone of our great Nation's efforts to
spare us from the ravages of fire; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is proud to commend Firefighter Robert
S. Henry upon the occasion of his designation for special recognition
after 68 years of dedicated service to the Copenhagen Fire Department;
and
WHEREAS, Robert S. Henry became a member of the Copenhagen Fire
Department on April 1, 1948; throughout the years, he has served honor-
ably in a number of positions including Fire Chief from 1953 through
1955, and President from 1981 through 1982; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to helping his community, Robert S. Henry serves as
a member of the Firemen's Association of the State of New York (FASNY),
the Northern New York Parade and Drill Team and Captain's Association
and the Jefferson County Fire Chiefs and Firefighters Association, as
well as being recognized as a life member of the New York State Volun-
teer Firemen's Parade and Drill Team Captain's Association; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, Robert S. Henry is an active member of the Cubs
Drill Team; and
WHEREAS, Robert S. Henry played a major role in constructing and
finishing the inside of the current Copenhagen Fire Hall, and today,
continues to enjoy working on projects that need to be done inside the
Fire Hall; and
WHEREAS, Robert S. Henry married the late Lucrecia (Keta) Livingston
on May 6, 1950; for many years, she was an active member of the Copenha-
gen Fireman's Auxiliary; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his two sons, James and Lynn
who are also volunteer firefighters, active in the Copenhagen Fire
Department, as well as his third son, the late Donald, and three grand-
sons, Shane, Tyler and William; and granddaughter, Nicole, all of whom
feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his achieve-
ments; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters and fire departments not only provide
the critical service of fire protection but also engage in other activ-
ities of great benefit and importance to the communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, It takes a special dedication, a strong desire to help others
and a tireless sense of community to forsake precious time with family
and friends to respond to the signal that a neighbor is in need; Robert
S. Henry is such a firefighter; throughout 68 years of devoted service,
this volunteer heroically performed, above and beyond the call of duty,
those responsibilities which define the task of fire protection; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Firefighter Robert S. Henry for 68 years of distinguished
service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Firefighter Robert S. Henry.
