LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Gloria Carter upon the occasion of her
designation as Toast to Our Mothers Honoree by Dress for Success World-
wide on April 7, 2016

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Gloria Carter upon the occasion of her designation as Toast to Our Moth-
ers Honoree by Dress for Success Worldwide, celebrated at its Give
Confidence, Hope and Style 2016 Gala held on Thursday, April 7, 2016, at
the Grand Hyatt New York, New York; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Gloria Carter, CEO and
co-Founder of the Shawn Carter Foundation, for her steadfast and
unremitting commitment to treating all women with dignity and respect;
and
WHEREAS, Under Gloria Carter's luminous leadership, the Shawn Carter
Foundation strives to help individuals facing socio-economic hardships
further their education at institutions of higher learning; and
WHEREAS, Each year, more than 800 guests and industry leaders from the
worlds of fashion, entertainment, media, retail, philanthropy and
finance share in Dress for Success Worldwide's mission of empowering
women to achieve economic independence by providing a network of
support, professional attire and the development tools to help women
thrive in work and in life; and
WHEREAS, With the generous support of its benefactors, nearly 70,000
women worldwide get back to work and rebuild better lives; and
WHEREAS, At Dress for Success Worldwide, the women that its serves are
the true celebrities of the organization; 10 Success Ambassadors are
selected to attend the gala based on their achievements since joining
Dress for Success and the commitment they have shown to progressing in
their careers; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Gloria Carter upon the occasion of her designation as Toast to
Our Mothers Honoree by Dress for Success Worldwide on April 7, 2016; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gloria Carter, CEO and co-Founder, Shawn Carter Foundation.
