LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the New York Impacto Lions Club upon
the occasion of celebrating its 20th Anniversary on June 24, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the New York Impacto Lions Club upon the occasion of celebrating its
20th Anniversary on Friday, June 24, 2016; and
WHEREAS, On June 6, 1996, the New York Impacto Lions Club was founded
by 10 like-minded people who resided in the Bronx and Manhattan neigh-
borhoods; most of the founding members were from the Dominican Republic,
where they spent a great deal of time and energy helping to better their
communities; as immigrants, they saw the need to create cohesion between
the two boroughs and help their neighbors prosper in their new lives in
the United States; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, the original members of the New York Impacto Lions
Club sponsored a Leo Club which was composed of their children; although
the young people have gone on to become professionals in their own
rights, the former Leos are very supportive of the new generation of New
York Impacto Leos and their continued efforts to serve the Bronx and
Manhattan communities; and
WHEREAS, For two decades, the New York Impacto Lions Club has followed
the tenets of the International Lions Clubs organization and has strived
to create an environment where the spirit is uplifted and every individ-
ual is encouraged to take part in the civic, cultural, social and moral
development of their community; members are united through the mutual
understanding of the common goal of serving their community; and
WHEREAS, These founding members saw the need for and wanted to stimu-
late and foster professional development within their neighborhoods and
assist the youth in becoming tomorrow's leaders; and
WHEREAS, The dedicated members of the New York Impacto Lions Club also
encourage responsible individuals to serve those in need whether it is
in New York City, the state as a whole, the Dominican Republic or any
other country overseas that is affected by natural disasters, extreme
poverty, persecution and hunger; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, the New York Impacto Lions Club has been
represented in the Lionistic Multiple District 20R2 and in the Lions
Club International Organization by a President, Secretary, Treasurer and
Membership Director elected by the members of the Club; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous guidance of these Directors, the New York
Impacto Lions Club has made donations to Haitians affected by crisis,
the Dominican Republic, Asian communities affected by the tsunami, preg-
nant women in Boca Chica, and ongoing little league baseball clinics for
the youth; and
WHEREAS, In addition, these enthusiastic and steadfast members make
year-round visits to nursing homes and donate both food and supplies to
the homeless within the community; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the years, the New York Impacto Lions Club have
raised significant funds to assist a young child in the Dominican Repub-
lic in need of a kidney transplant; and
WHEREAS, For the past 15 years, the New York Impacto Lions Club, along
with other Lionistic Clubs, has hosted a free annual health fair for the
residents of Washington Heights community of Manhattan; members with

various medical backgrounds and local sponsors have provided crucial
medical care to more than 2,000 patients; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 20th Anniversary of the New York Impacto Lions Club, and
to commend its members, past and present, who have labored so conscien-
tiously to secure and improve the quality of life in the community; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the New York Impacto Lions Club.
