LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Robert Howe upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2016 Civic Award by the Bay Ridge Commu-
nity Council

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in communities across New York State are
reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organizations
and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the commu-
nity and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Robert Howe upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the
2016 Civic Award by the Bay Ridge Community Council to be celebrated at
its 65th Annual Dinner Dance on Thursday, June 2, 2016, in Brooklyn, New
York; and
WHEREAS, A graduate of Saint Anselm School and Xaverian High School,
Robert Howe earned his Bachelor's degree in Government from Hamilton
College, Clinton, New York; after attending Brooklyn Law School, he was
admitted to both the New York and Pennsylvania State Bars; and
WHEREAS, For over 35 years, Robert Howe has worked in private practice
in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, specializing in Wills and Estates, Business law
and Real Estate transactions; through the years, he has helped thousands
of Brooklyn residents achieve their goals of home ownership, advised
them though difficult personal times and helped them plan for their
future; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his craft, Robert Howe is a member of the Bay
Ridge Lawyers and the New York State Bar Association; and
WHEREAS, This remarkable man has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Since 1994, Robert Howe has held the title of President of
the Merchants of Third Avenue, which organizes the Summer Stroll, the
Festival, the Pioneers reception and the Avenue lighting programs during
the summer and holiday season; this vital association also hosts several
local parades including the Bay Ridge Saint Patrick's Day Parade, the
Norwegian Day parade, the Memorial Day Parade and the Ragamuffin parade;
and
WHEREAS, In addition to his role of keeping Third Avenue unified,
Robert Howe is the Director of Saint Anselm Catholic Academy and serves
as President of the Bay Ridge Bensonhurst Beautification Alliance, an
organization of local business groups working to keep the community and
commercial activity strong; and
WHEREAS, For his steadfast and unremitting commitment to his communi-
ty, Robert Howe was honored by the Ragamuffin Committee of Bay Ridge,
Saint Anselm Parish, the St. Nicholas home and the Bay Ridge Saint
Patrick's Day Parade Committee; and
WHEREAS, For almost three decades, the Howe family has owned and oper-
ated one of the longest running and most successful restaurants in Bay
Ridge, Howe's Steak House, which is now known as Chadwick's; and
WHEREAS, Interested in the culinary arts, Robert Howe has studied and
taught hospitality management at New York Technical College, and he and
his wife have written food reviews for the BAY RIDGE EAGLE and for the
HOME REPORTER; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Robert Howe has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and

WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife of more than 36
years, Diana; his four devoted children, Trevor, Siobhan (Matthew),
Brianne (Andrew), and Caitlin (David); and his three treasured grand-
children, Caroline, Brayden, and Monica, all of whom feel privileged to
be a part of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Robert Howe has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Robert Howe upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
the 2016 Civic Award by the Bay Ridge Community Council; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Robert Howe.
