LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Chief Donald Wolanin upon the occasion
of his retirement after many years of distinguished service to the
Whitestown Police Department
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Chief Donald
Wolanin upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of distin-
guished service to the Whitestown Police Department; he will officially
retire from this esteemed position on Wednesday, September 10, 2014,
after more than four decades of police service; and
WHEREAS, Chief Donald Wolanin began his illustrious career in law
enforcement in 1973, working as a Police Officer for the New York Mills
Police Department; during this time, he also served as a School Bus
Driver for the New York Mills School District; and
WHEREAS, For more than 25 years, Chief Donald Wolanin has served the
Whitestown community; he began as a Police Officer with the Department
in 1988, and climbed the ranks to the revered Chief of Police, a posi-
tion he has held since 2002; and
WHEREAS, Driven by his commitment to do what's best for the community,
Chief Donald Wolanin has served the people of Whitestown with an unwav-
ering passion and dedication; and
WHEREAS, In addition to his steadfast commitment to the Whitestown
community, Chief Donald Wolanin honorably served in the United States
Army Reserves, where he retired as a Command Sergeant Major in 2000; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his loving wife and two wonder-
ful sons, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and
rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Chief Donald Wolanin upon the occasion of his retirement after
many years of distinguished service to the Whitestown Police Department,
and to wish him well in all his future endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Chief Donald Wolanin.
