LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Norman Hickson upon the occasion of his
retirement after 50 years of distinguished service to the New York City
Police Department Auxiliary Force

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and honor
those distinguished officers and citizens who would devote themselves to
public service, demonstrating great courage and diligence in providing
for the care and welfare of the citizens of their communities and this
great Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Within every community of the State of New York there are
certain individuals who, by virtue of their commitment and dedication,
command the respect and admiration of their community for their exem-
plary contributions and service on behalf of others; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Norman Hickson
upon the occasion of his retirement after 50 years of distinguished
service to the New York City Police Department Auxiliary Force; and
WHEREAS, A veteran of the New York City Police Department (NYPD),
Norman Hickson is retiring after serving his community for five decades
as an Auxiliary Police Deputy Inspector; and
WHEREAS, The youngest of 12 siblings, Norman Hickson was born on May
30, 1931, in Aiken, South Carolina; his valiant career in public service
began when he enlisted in the United States Army where he served for six
years, eventually earning the rank of Corporal; and
WHEREAS, Upon his honorable discharge, Norman Hickson settled in New
York and opened two businesses, Hollywood Unisex Barbershop and Holly-
wood Car for Hire, which he continues to operate today; and
WHEREAS, Norman Hickson became an NYPD Auxiliary Police Officer at the
103rd precinct in 1965; he was then promoted to Auxiliary Sergeant and
transferred to the 113th precinct where he climbed the ranks to become
Auxiliary Lieutenant, and eventually Auxiliary Captain; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, in 1996, Norman Hickson was instrumental in the
establishment of the Special Details of Churches in the 113th precinct;
five years later, in 2001, he was promoted to the highest Auxiliary
Police rank, Deputy Inspector; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those dedicated
public servants who unselfishly devote their lives to the preservation
of order and the protection of others are worthy and due full praise for
their commitment and noble endeavors; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Norman Hickson upon the occasion of his retirement after 50 years
of distinguished service to the New York City Police Department Auxilia-
ry Force; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Norman Hickson.
