LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Judge Josephine Finn upon the occasion
of her induction into the Monticello Central School District Hall of
Distinction on November 2, 2014

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding individuals whose professional lives, personal endeavors and
community service are an example and inspiration to their colleagues,
friends, and family; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Judge Josephine Finn upon the occasion of her induction into the Monti-
cello Central School District Hall of Distinction, to be celebrated at
its 2nd Annual Induction Ceremony on Sunday, November 2, 2014, at the
Arnold Packer Hughes Auditorium, Monticello High School, Monticello, New
York; and
WHEREAS, The Hall of Distinction was established in 2012 by the Board
of Education to honor highly successful graduates, former students and
former employees who have achieved distinction, outstanding accomplish-
ment, or have made a significant contribution within their school, fami-
ly, career, community and/or personal life; and
WHEREAS, Judge Josephine Finn is a Monticello Alumna, Class of 1968;
elected into the New York State Board of Regents in March of 2014, she
has recently been designated to her fourth term as Village Judge for the
Village of Monticello; and
WHEREAS, A tireless advocate for children and education, Judge Jose-
phine Finn spearheaded Creative Think Tank, Inc., a youth organization
designed to help keep at-risk youth out of the criminal justice system;
and
WHEREAS, A tenured Associate Professor at Sullivan County Community
College for 13 years, Judge Josephine Finn has also served on the
school's Board of Trustees; and
WHEREAS, Judge Josephine Finn has been the proud recipient of count-
less awards and accolades some of which include the Frederick Douglass
Award from the Association for the Study of Afro-American Life and
History, the Sullivan County Chamber of Commerce Community Service
Award, the Business and Professional Women's Community Service Awards,
as well as the Every Day Hero Award from Kiwanis International, Monti-
cello chapter; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Judge Josephine Finn has displayed
throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Judge Josephine Finn upon the occasion of her induction into the
Monticello Central School District Hall of Distinction on November 2,
2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Judge Josephine Finn.
