LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 97th Anniversary of the Clayton
American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those patriotic
organizations and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of
the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 97th Anniversary of the Clayton American Legion Colon-Couch
Post 821, which was celebrated at a dinner held on Saturday, March 19,
2016, in Clayton, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Clayton American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821 was founded
on July 17, 1919, and it owes its longevity to the faithful dedication
of its many wonderful members; and
WHEREAS, The Clayton American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821 is named
after Sergeant George O. Colon, a member of the United States Marines
and Corporal Harry W. Couch, a member of the United States Army, both
natives of Clayton who died in 1918 in service to their country; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its nearly 10 decades of service, the mission of
the Clayton American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821 has been to help veter-
ans, active military members, their families and children, as well as
the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The Clayton American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821 has
supported not only local veterans but also county and state veterans'
programs and community programs, including support for Fort Drum Wounded
Warrior programs and providing funding for high school band uniforms;
and
WHEREAS, Under the direction of Commander Stanley Dine, the Clayton
American Legion Colon-Couch Post 821 continues its dedication to foster-
ing the traditions of patriotism, excellence, and commitment which have
made our nation strong; and
WHEREAS, For 97 years, the members of the Clayton American Legion
Colon-Couch Post 821 have distinguished themselves in service to their
country and their community; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
significance of their contributions and to note their worthy endeavors
which have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 97th Anniversary of the Clayton American Legion Colon-
Couch Post 821, and to commend its members, past and present, on behalf
of a grateful community; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Commander Stanley Dine, Clayton American Legion Colon-Couch
Post 821.
