LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Ryan Austin Hecht upon the occa-
sion of receiving the distinguished rank of Eagle Scout, the most pres-
tigious of Scouting honors, on May 21, 2016

WHEREAS, Ryan Austin Hecht, through his diligence and rigorous efforts,
has achieved Scouting's highest and most prestigious rank, Eagle Scout;
the Eagle Court of Honor ceremony will be held on Saturday, May 21,
2016, at the Miller Place High School in Miller Place, New York; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Austin Hecht, the son of Craig and Christine Hecht, is a
member of Boy Scouts of America Troop 204, Miller Place, New York; and
WHEREAS, Since joining Troop 204, Ryan Austin Hecht has earned numer-
ous Scouting medals including, Ad Altare Dei Religious, Jockey Hollow
Historic Trail, Gettysburg Heritage Trails, Boston Freedom Trail, Valley
Forge Trail and Philadelphia Freedom Trail, as well as the Totin' Chip
and Fireman Chit Awards; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Austin Hecht, a Senior attending Mount Sinai High School
in Mount Sinai, New York, is ranked 5th in his class, and has achieved
success as a National Merit Scholar Commended Student, AP Scholar of
Distinction, as well as a member of National Honor Society and Mathletes
A-Team; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Ryan Austin Hecht has been recognized as a four-
time Computer Science Student of the Month, Teacher Assistant for an
Introductory Programming Class and a finisher in the top 50% of the
Saint Joseph College Programming Contest; and
WHEREAS, Involved in the performing arts and sports, Ryan Austin Hecht
played the lead in several high school musicals, and has been a member
of the Tri-M Music Honor Society and New York State School Music Associ-
ation; he also participated in varsity golf and tennis; and
WHEREAS, After graduation, Ryan Austin Hecht plans to attend Brown
University or Johns Hopkins University in the Fall; and
WHEREAS, America has achieved her greatest heights of glory through
the dedication, determination and tireless efforts of the outstanding
citizens of this Nation; and
WHEREAS, It is only with the continued diligence and devotion of our
youth, tomorrow's leaders, that America will maintain her glory; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, The highest achievement of leadership in Scouting, earned by
only five percent of all Boy Scouts, is the distinguished rank of Eagle
Scout; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding young man has been involved in Scouting for
many years, has lived up to Scouting's ideals and has attained all of
the necessary achievements, including completion of a community service
project, which was successfully planned, developed and executed; and
WHEREAS, For his project, Ryan Austin Hecht planned, organized and
constructed an outdoor, weatherproof message board for the Outreach
Office at Infant Jesus Roman Catholic Church in Port Jefferson, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Austin Hecht led a work group of scouts, scout leaders
and parents who helped construct the message board using composite deck-
ing materials; the message board includes features such as locked double
doors, cork interior, a copper roof and solar lighting; the work group
also landscaped the area surrounding the message board; and
WHEREAS, Ryan Austin Hecht's perseverance in rising through the ranks
to Eagle Scout is a strong indication of his ability to master difficult

tasks; his accomplishment will enable him to emerge as a leader, fully
equipped to meet the challenges of today's complex society; and
WHEREAS, This new Eagle Scout is a credit to his family, his school,
his community, his State and his Nation, and no doubt his future will be
filled with accomplishments of equal importance; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations, in
recognition of the significance of this meritorious achievement, to
congratulate and honor Ryan Austin Hecht on achieving the rank of Eagle
Scout; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ryan Austin Hecht.
