LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Rosalyn Reitknecht upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the New York State Office for
the Aging on May 10, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Rosalyn Reitknecht has given not only of her time and ener-
gies but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Rosalyn Reit-
knecht upon the occasion of her designation for special recognition by
the New York State Office for the Aging to be celebrated at a Senior
Citizens' Day event in Albany, New York, on Tuesday, May 10, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Rosalyn moved to
Queens when she married a fellow native New Yorker, and has lived there
ever since; and
WHEREAS, Rosalyn, affectionately known as Roz, met her husband while
studying at New York University where she majored in commercial teach-
ing; she went on to own and operate a ladies' apparel store in Jackson
Heights until 1985, and then worked at a women's boutique where she was
an outstanding saleswoman; and
WHEREAS, Rosalyn Reitknecht is the proud mother of one daughter who is
an accomplished heart surgeon living in Pennsylvania, and the loving
grandmother of one granddaughter; and
WHEREAS, For over 25 years, Rosalyn Reitknecht has been a member of
the Selfhelp Austin Street Senior Center where she has volunteered as a
leader of the Staywell Exercise Class, the Lunch Secretary, Past Policy
Advisory Council President, and Present Member At Large; and
WHEREAS, At the age of 93, Rosalyn Reitknecht still attends and volun-
teers several times per week; she makes the days brighter with her
welcoming smile and warm, friendly personality; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Rosalyn Reitknecht has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rosalyn Reitknecht, an inspiration to all who know her, is an
example that physical activity, a positive attitude, and a desire to
help results in a long and healthy life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Rosalyn Reitknecht upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the New York State Office for the Aging on May
10, 2016; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Rosalyn Reitknecht.
