LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 50th Anniversary of Miss
Barbara's School of Dance in Buffalo, New York
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor and pay trib-
ute to those organizations whose commitment and creative talents
contribute to the cultural enrichment and entertainment of their commu-
nity and the entire State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 50th Anniversary of Miss Barbara's School of Dance in Buffalo,
New York; and
WHEREAS, Miss Barbara's School of Dance is the longest running Afri-
can-American owned and operated dance school in the city of Buffalo's
history; Barbara D. Glover, owner and director, is a living institution
whose name is synonymous with dance and excellence; and
WHEREAS, Born in Buffalo, New York, Barbara D. Glover has taught,
staged, choreographed, directed and produced shows for numerous civic,
church and community organizations; she has positively impacted the
lives of countless young people who have used her instructions in the
art of dance, charm, grace and patience as a basis for their own
personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Miss Barbara's School of Dance was established in 1966, in
what was then the Humboldt Branch YMCA; with enrollment continually
increasing through the years, the school moved to several locations
throughout the local community, settling at its current location on Main
Street in December of 2009; and
WHEREAS, This vital institution offers dance training for children and
adults and welcomes students of all ethnic backgrounds; classes are
offered in tap, jazz, African, gymnastics and hip hop; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and accolades, Miss
Barbara's School of Dance was selected in 2002 to perform for Magic
Music Days at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida; in addition, the
school is a member of Buffalo Niagara Partnership and Dance Masters of
America, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Miss Barbara's School of Dance continues to serve, educate,
train and strengthen the character of its students; the school ignites
dancers' potential one step at a time and gives them opportunities to
grow and develop; and
WHEREAS, The success of Miss Barbara's School of Dance is in direct
correlation to the efforts of its owner, Barbara D. Glover, as well as
its instructors, whose involvement is, and always has been, character-
ized by an impressive commitment, an unbridled enthusiasm, and an uncom-
promising standard of excellence in all endeavors on behalf of the
institution and the community it serves; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents an opportunity for this
Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Miss Barbara's School
of Dance; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that when insti-
tutions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 50th Anniversary of Miss Barbara's School of Dance; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Barbara D. Glover, Owner, Miss Barbara's School of Dance,
Buffalo, New York.
