LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 125th Anniversary of the SULLI-
VAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those illustrious journalistic entities which have diligently and
consistently, year after year, recorded the history of their communities
and brought local news and news of the larger world to their readers;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 125th Anniversary of the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT; and
WHEREAS, Published continuously for the past 125 years, the SULLIVAN
COUNTY DEMOCRAT is the county's oldest news source; since its inception,
this vital newspaper has focused on being a critical source of community
news, information, commentary and sports; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1891, the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT has proudly and
determinedly served its community through the end of the 19th Century,
the full breadth of the 20th Century, and now continues into the 21st
Century; and
WHEREAS, Throughout its illustrious history, the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMO-
CRAT has covered the local impact of two World Wars, the arrival and
legacy of the world-famous Woodstock Festival, the rise and fall of the
Borscht Belt, and the ongoing affairs of 15 townships, 12 school
districts, six village and multiple generations of individuals and fami-
lies who have sought to better Sullivan County; and
WHEREAS, Today, the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT remains an active,
vibrant part of Sullivan County life; it continues to be a significant
local employer, and produces a multitude of print and digital publica-
tions read by thousands of people around the world; and
WHEREAS, Since 1927, the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT has been under the
luminous direction of the Stabbert family; maintaining a high quality
and relevant paper, they, along with their committed staff, continue to
deliver a superior product to all of its readers, and serves as an
expressive voice to the people of Sullivan County by providing a plat-
form for all members of its community; and
WHEREAS, Our newspapers provide a tremendous service to citizens
across the State of New York by keeping them informed about current
events; the democracy of our State and Nation is strengthened by a
responsible citizenry which is actively engaged in reading and kept
abreast of news affecting their lives; and
WHEREAS, As the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT moves into the future, it
carries with it the legacy of a distinguished journalistic history and
an outstanding record of growth and achievement; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT'S distinguished journalistic history
and its outstanding record of growth and achievement, recognizes its
contributions to the local and State economies, and extends its highest
commendation to the newspaper and its employees, fully confident that,
in its future, it will enjoy the same success which has so characterized
its past; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Stabbert family, owners/operators, the SULLIVAN COUNTY
DEMOCRAT.
