LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the dedication of the renovated
baseball field at Christian Brothers Academy of Syracuse as the Tom
"Coach" Dotterer Field

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those notable educators and athletic coaches within our midst
who have served the youth of this great Empire State and distinguished
themselves and their schools through outstanding commitment and exem-
plary athletic achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the dedication of the renovated baseball field at Christian Broth-
ers Academy as the Tom "Coach" Dotterer Field, which will take place on
Sunday, May 15, 2016; and
WHEREAS, The renovated baseball field at Christian Brothers Academy
(CBA) features improved drainage, upgraded field materials, structural
dugouts, new bleachers along the first base line, an upgraded concession
stand, a new backstop, and an outfield wind screen; in addition, a new
bullpen and batting cage was funded through the Make-A-Wish Foundation
of CNY in honor of CBA pitcher Jack Sheridan; and
WHEREAS, Tom Dotterer, a former standout high school and professional
baseball player, and a 1953 graduate of CBA, has been the Head Baseball
Coach at CBA for the past 36 years; and
WHEREAS, As Head Coach, Tom Dotterer has led the school's varsity
baseball program to more than 10 consecutive division championships; and
WHEREAS, In 1996, under Coach Tom Dotterer's strong leadership, the
CBA baseball team became the first team in the Onondaga League and the
program's history to bring home a New York State title with an impres-
sive season record of 21-3; in that same year, Tom Dotterer was named
All-CNY Coach of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Tom Dotterer was also inducted into the Christian Brothers
Academy Sports Hall of Fame in 2002 for his special coaching techniques
and for his impressive overall record of more than 600 wins during his
career to date; furthermore, the Syracuse Chiefs in conjunction with the
United States Army Syracuse Recruiting Company named Tom Dotterer the US
Army High School Baseball Coach of the Year in 2008; and
WHEREAS, Prior to becoming the Head Coach at CBA, Tom Dotterer was a
professional baseball player in the Minor Leagues, who signed with the
Cincinnati Reds organization in 1953; his 10-year professional career
took him throughout the minor leagues all the way to Triple A, where he
played for Jersey City and Toronto; and
WHEREAS, When Tom Dotterer decided to return home in 1962, he played
baseball for his hometown Syracuse Chiefs and started coaching in the
youth baseball leagues of Syracuse until he was recruited in 1980 to
serve as the Head Coach at CBA, a position he has held ever since; and
WHEREAS, Tom Dotterer is a skilled and inspirational mentor, who is
respected for his ability to develop potential into excellence; he has
earned the respect and admiration of the community, his peers, and the
athletes he so ably coaches; and
WHEREAS, Coach Tom Dotterer has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence, which is a tradition at CBA in Syracuse; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his supportive family members,
all of whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
many achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-

tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the dedication of the renovated baseball field at Christian
Brothers Academy on May 15, 2016, in the name of Tom "Coach" Dotterer,
and to wish him continued success in coaching and in all of his future
endeavors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Coach Tom Dotterer.
