LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION celebrating the 90th Anniversary of the historic
Hotel Syracuse with the commemoration of its restoration
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the preser-
vation of historical landmarks that served to enhance the growth of this
great State, ensuring that the complete history of our State and Nation
is shared with present generations of citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to celebrate
the 90th Anniversary of the historic Hotel Syracuse with the commem-
oration of its restoration; and
WHEREAS, In spring of 2016, the newly renovated Hotel Syracuse will
once again be open for business; the hotel features 260 guest rooms,
three ballrooms, and a bar and separate restaurant serving breakfast,
lunch and dinner; and
WHEREAS, In July of 2014, Syracuse, New York, native and hotel
consultant Ed Riley took over ownership of the iconic Hotel Syracuse; as
a former employee of Pyramid Hotel Group in Boston, Massachusetts, he
has overseen the restoration of historic properties across the country,
including the 1920s-era Fairfax on Embassy Row in Washington, D.C., the
Frank Lloyd Wright-influenced Arizona Biltmore and the historic Clare-
mont Hotel on the San Francisco Bay; and
WHEREAS, With his vast hotel experience, Ed Riley has completed, reno-
vated and updated guest rooms, and restored many of the iconic original
details throughout Hotel Syracuse's grand lobby, ballrooms and hotel
corridors to its 1920s splendor; and
WHEREAS, In addition, a 1980s brick addition that attached the hotel
to another building on East Onondaga Street was removed and the hotel's
third ballroom also underwent a complete transformation; and
WHEREAS, Designed by noted Architect, George B. Post & Sons, Hotel
Syracuse was built between 1922-1924; in August of 1924, the hotel
opened its doors to the public for the first time, offering its guests
600 small rooms to stay in; and
WHEREAS, After closing as a hotel in 2003, the venue continued to host
catering events until 2009; in 2008, the magnificent venue was added to
the National Register of Historic Places; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is pleased to have this opportunity to
express its highest admiration for the historic Hotel Syracuse, and for
all of the individuals who have worked to bring proper attention to a
place and time which merits recognition in the grand panorama of the
history of our State and Nation; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the 90th Anniversary of the historic Hotel Syracuse with the
commemoration of its restoration; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Ed Riley, Owner, Hotel Syracuse.
