LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Professor Sue Faerman upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Distinguished Service to the
College Award by Rockefeller College of Public Affairs & Policy
WHEREAS, It is incumbent upon the people of the State of New York to
recognize and acknowledge those within our midst who have made signif-
icant contributions to the quality of life therein; and
WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Professor Sue
Faerman upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of the Distin-
guished Service to the College Award by the Rockefeller College of
Public Affairs & Policy, to be celebrated at its Annual Alumni Dinner &
Awards Ceremony on Friday, May 13, 2016, at the New York State Museum,
Albany, New York; and
WHEREAS, Sue Faerman earned her Bachelor's degree in Applied Mathemat-
ics and Statistics from SUNY Stony Brook, and her Master's degree in
Applied Mathematics from George Washington University; she furthered her
education by obtaining her Ph.D. in Public Administration from the
University at Albany; and
WHEREAS, Professor Sue Faerman's work centers on managerial leader-
ship, focusing particularly on the paradoxical elements of leadership
and organizational performance; more recently, she has begun doing
research on issues related to work-life balance and integration; in
addition, she has authored or co-authored numerous books, articles, and
book chapters on leadership and organization and management theory; and
WHEREAS, In 1998, Professor Sue Faerman was named a University Collins
Fellow, an award that recognizes members of the University at Albany
teaching faculty who have exhibited extraordinary devotion to the
University over a sustained period of time;
WHEREAS, From 1999-2013, Professor Sue Faerman was a distinguished
teaching professor at the University at Albany From; she also served as
the University at Albany's Vice Provost and Dean for Undergraduate
Education; she then held the position of Dean of the University's
College of Computing and Information; and
WHEREAS, Since 2010, Professor Sue Faerman has held the title of
Academic Chair of the Center for Women in Government and Civil Society's
Women's Leadership Academy; and
WHEREAS, Throughout her illustrious career, Professor Sue Faerman has
been the recipient of numerous awards and accolades for her exceptional
teaching and mentorship, including the Organizational Behavior Teaching
Society's 2014 Peter J. Frost Mentoring Award, the University at Albany
President's 2014 Outstanding Student Organization Advisor Award, the
Center for Women in Government and Civil Society's 2013 Women in Public
Service Leadership Award, the University at Albany's 2012 Lavender Grad-
uation OUT-Standing Faculty/Staff Leadership Award, NASPAA's 2003 Leslie
A. Whittington Excellence in Teaching Award (2003) and both the Univer-
sity at Albany's President's Award and the SUNY Chancellor's Award for
Excellence in Teaching in 2000; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Professor Sue Faerman upon the occasion of her designation as
recipient of the Distinguished Service to the College Award by Rockefel-
ler College of Public Affairs & Policy; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Professor Sue Faerman.
