LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 200th Anniversary of the found-
ing of Gladding Braided Products, LLC

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize the
achievements of those businesses which substantially contribute to the
economic vitality of their communities and the entire Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 200th Anniversary of the founding of Gladding Braided
Products, LLC; and
WHEREAS, In 1816, John Gladding founded what is known today as Glad-
ding Braided Products, LLC in the town of Pharsalia, New York; he would
go on to build the company into a leading manufacturer of such marine
textiles as ropes, chalk lines, and fishing lines; and
WHEREAS, As John Gladding's business grew and expanded, he was joined
by his son, James, and grandson, B.F. Gladding, who both managed the
business and helped forge a reputation for producing the highest quality
fishing lines; and
WHEREAS, In 1895, B. F. Gladding directed the company to produce new
braided fishing lines, using the finest Japanese silks; his many years
of braiding experience combined with such superior raw materials led to
the introduction of The Invincible, the flagship line of all of
Gladding's many brands; and
WHEREAS, Taking the name B.F. Gladding & Company, the business moved
to South Otselic, New York, in 1890; it soon became a vital part of its
community both as an employer, and through its support of numerous civic
minded ventures including a public water supply, new sidewalks and fire
protection, as well as the area's first public telephone system; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, approximately seven successive generations of
the Gladding family served as managers of the company; by the late
1920s, B.F. Gladding & Company was reputed to be the largest and oldest
fishing line manufacturer in the world; and
WHEREAS, In 1972, the Gladding Corporation formed the International
Sport Fishing Museum, where vintage fishing tackle, Gladding memorabilia
and other related objects were displayed; and
WHEREAS, In 2003, Gladding was purchased by Sparky Christakos and
became Gladding Braided Products, LLC; it has remained committed to
preserving its founders tradition of providing uncompromising attention
and dedication to its customers; and
WHEREAS, Today, Gladding Braided Products continues to adapt to an
ever-changing marketplace with advanced scientific achievements in raw
materials and precision in order to serve the needs of the medical,
automotive, aeronautics, electronics, and commercial fishing and netting
markets; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Gladding Braided Products is committed to work-
ing tirelessly to design and engineer custom braids to satisfy the most
demanding specifications of such diverse customers as the United States
Department of Defense, the Cosmic Goose, and Morty the Knife Man; and
WHEREAS, It is with great pleasure that this Legislative Body acknowl-
edges the Gladding Braided Products' success, recognizes its contrib-
utions to the local and State economies, and extends its highest commen-
dation to the corporation and its employees, fully confident that, in
its future, it will enjoy the same success which has so characterized
its past; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 200th Anniversary of the founding of Gladding Braided
Products, LLC; and be it further

RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gladding Braided Products, LLC.
