LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Great Neck South High School's
Robotics Team 2638 upon the occasion of winning the Chairman's Award
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend and pay
tribute to those who, by achieving outstanding success in their educa-
tional and scientific and technological endeavors, have inspired and
brought pride to our majestic Empire State; and
WHEREAS, It is also the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize
the dedication and commitment of our young people who distinguish them-
selves through excellence in science and technology competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Great Neck South High School's Robotics Team 2638 upon the occasion
of winning the Chairman's Award at the Finger Lakes Regional competition
in Rochester, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Chairman's Award is the most prestigious in FIRST (For
Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) Robotics, and
honors the team that represents a model for other groups to emulate and
best embodies the purpose and goals of FIRST; and
WHEREAS, Through this competition and by winning the Chairman's Award,
Great Neck South High School's Robotics Team 2638, known as Rebellion,
was invited to attend the FIRST World Championship in Saint Louis from
April 27, 2016 to April 30, 2016; and
WHEREAS, Rebellion also received a Hard Hat Safety Award based on its
Community Outreach Safety Initiatives presented at the program events;
and
WHEREAS, At the two-day event, Rebellion battled against 48 other
teams from around the Northeast in more than 14 matches and, after the
qualifying round, was ranked seventh overall in the competition, the
highest ranking the team has ever achieved in any competition; and
WHEREAS, More than 100 South High students from grades nine through 12
are members of the school's Robotics Club; participants in Rochester
included Sarina Chan, Hannah Chang, Steven Chasen, Kevin Chen, Maxwell
Cohn, Sara DeCarle, Arman Farshadmand, Vanessa Fazzini, Kelly Foo, Max
Gal, Ryan George, Joshua Go, Samuel Go, Clara Goldberger, Jennifer Guo,
Noah Kniesly, Benjamin Kobliner, Jenna Kolodny, Rachel Koo, Adam Krieg-
er, Jordan Lempert, Iris Lin, Michael Lu, Fion Ma, William Miecuna,
Allyson Mittler (team co-President), Morgan Mittler, Wendy Mo, Rachel
Moss, Ryan Motchkavitz, Jonathan Neves, Benjamin Newman, Jonathan Perl-
man (team co-President), Adam Pramberger, Joshua Putter, Haley Raphael,
Saad Satter, Mansi Shah, Joon Shin, Parker Spector-Salwen, Avery Stron-
gin, Carmen Tong, Tyler Warren, Everett White, Gabriella Wong, Siyeon
(Stella) Yu and Erick Zizic; and
WHEREAS, Robotics faculty advisors John Motchkavitz, head of the
Business/Technology Department, and Matthew Corrigan,
Business/Technology Teacher have done a superb job in guiding, molding
and inspiring the team members toward their goals; and
WHEREAS, Educational competitions which serve to better prepare our
students for their future are worthy of praise and support; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to congratulate Great
Neck South High School's Robotics Team 2638 upon the occasion of winning
the Chairman's Award at the Finger Lakes Regional Competition in Roches-
ter, New York, and for their noteworthy educational, scientific and
technological endeavors and achievements; their outstanding performance
has clearly made a contribution to the spirit of excellence which is a
tradition of their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, these
scholars now stand honorably, with just pride in their accomplishments
and in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appre-
ciating the caring counsel and support provided by their teachers and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Great Neck South High School's Robotics Team 2638 upon the
occasion of winning the Chairman's Award at the Finger Lakes Regional
Competition in Rochester, New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Motchkavitz, head of the Business/Technology Department,
Matthew Corrigan, Business/Technology Teacher, and to the members of the
Great Neck South High School's Robotics Team 2638.
