LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 125th Anniversary of the Water-
town Salvation Army
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who devote themselves to the welfare of the commu-
nity and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 125th Anniversary of the Watertown Salvation Army; and
WHEREAS, The Watertown Salvation Army will celebrate this momentous
occasion on Friday, May 20, 2016, at an event to be held at the Ramada
Inn in Watertown, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Watertown Salvation Army was founded in 1891 by Captain
Morrell and Lieutenant Waller and has been dedicated to actively serving
the community since that time; and
WHEREAS, For 125 years, the Watertown Salvation Army has dedicated
itself to the general welfare of the Watertown community through assist-
ance with Thanksgiving meals, Christmastime assistance, various chil-
dren's programs, providing rooms for homeless, back-to-school programs,
and a soup kitchen, as well as many other types of social assistance;
and
WHEREAS, The Watertown Salvation Army has expanded its services
throughout the years, and has helped countless people from all walks of
life in times of need; and
WHEREAS, For 125 years, the Watertown Salvation Army has distinguished
itself in service to the Watertown community; it is the custom of this
Legislative Body to recognize the significance of such contributions and
to note such worthy endeavors which have earned the recognition and
applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 125th Anniversary of the Watertown Salvation Army, and
to commend its members, past and present, on behalf of a grateful commu-
nity; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Watertown Salvation Army.
