LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Justin Sutherland upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of a Young Professionals Award by the
SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young adults within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Justin Sutherland upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of a
Young Professionals Award by the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT; and
WHEREAS, Justin Sutherland of Somewhere in Time Farm in Parksville,
New York, was selected for this esteemed honor in recognition of his
hard work, ambition, and creativity, as well as for his profound impact
in and around the community of Sullivan County; and
WHEREAS, Growing up on land farmed by his grandfather and great-grand-
father, Justin Sutherland was ingrained with a true love of the earth
and growing things; and
WHEREAS, The son of Jon and Justine Sutherland, Justin Sutherland
graduated from Liberty High School in 2006; he went on to attend North-
eastern University in Boston where he majored in music; and
WHEREAS, A songwriter and composer, Justin Sutherland is known locally
for performances at the North Branch Inn, Catskill Brewery in Livingston
Manor, Eureka Cafe in Grahamsville, and Bethel Woods Harvest Festival;
and
WHEREAS, Justin Sutherland began his illustrious career working in
music therapy at the Center for Discovery in Harris, where he also began
landscaping; during this time, he asked to volunteer at the on-site
organic farm, resulting in a three-year job as manager of the Center's
Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) program, which allows individuals
to purchase a share of the produce grown; and
WHEREAS, In 2015, Justin Sutherland began living out his dream of
awakening his family farm, growing and selling vegetables as well as
hand-cut zinnias, cosmos, snapdragons, amaranthus, sweet pea and
sunflowers; he worked Farmers' Markets in Liberty and Rock Hill, and
provided flowers for a Livingston Manor florist; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, this year Justin Sutherland will build a
seedling greenhouse with a second one planned for tomatoes, peppers and
trellised cucumbers; he will also plant 40 different fresh, local and
herbicide free vegetables; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Justin Sutherland upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of a Young Professionals Award by the SULLIVAN COUNTY DEMOCRAT; and
be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Justin Sutherland.
