LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Hope Breslin upon the occasion of being
named the 2015-2016 Gatorade New York State Girls Soccer Player of the
Year
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Hope
Breslin of Massapequa, New York, upon the occasion of being named the
2015-2016 Gatorade New York State Girls Soccer Player of the Year, by
the Gatorade Company in collaboration with USA TODAY High School Sports;
and
WHEREAS, In its 31st year, the Gatorade Youth Awards Program selects
one high school winner from each of the 50 states and District of Colum-
bia in a vast array of sports; this illustrious award recognizes not
only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academ-
ic achievement and character both on and off the field; and
WHEREAS, A Junior at Massapequa High School, Hope Breslin is an exem-
plary member of the Massapequa community; she has represented her school
well both on and off the field; and
WHEREAS, This talented and hard-working student-athlete led her team
to their historic third straight Class AA State Championship, scoring 27
goals and passing for 10 assists during the season; an All-East Region
selection by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America, she was
named both the New York State Class AA Player of the Year and the Long
Island Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Hope Breslin led her team, the Massapequa Chiefs, to a number
three ranking nationally in the NSCAA/USA TODAY Super 25; she was also
named Most Valuable Player during the play-offs last year; and
WHEREAS, Active in giving back to her community, Hope Breslin is a
peer mentor, and has volunteered locally on behalf of the Special Olym-
pics, youth soccer programs and Best Buddies International; and
WHEREAS, With this distinction, Hope Breslin joins an elite alumni
association of famous past State award winners including Derek Jeter,
Candace Parker, Alexi Lalas, Heather O'Reilly and Mark Sanchez; she is
also the fourth Gatorade New York State Girls Soccer Player of the Year
to be chosen from Massapequa High School; and
WHEREAS, Hope Breslin has distinguished herself academically by main-
taining an A average in her studies, and has committed as a sophomore to
play soccer at Big 10's University of Illinois in the Fall of 2017; and
WHEREAS, Hope Breslin has been given this exceptional award for her
impact and versatility on and off the soccer field, and for her
outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, athletic excellence, academic
achievement, and exemplary character; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers, coaches and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Hope Breslin upon the occasion of being named the 2015-2016 Gato-
rade New York State Girls Soccer Player of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Hope Breslin.
