LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Stephen R. Reilly upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Sister Gail Rieth Volunteer Award by
Circles of Mercy on June 8, 2016

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Stephen R. Reilly has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Stephen R.
Reilly upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Sister
Gail Rieth Volunteer Award by Circles of Mercy, to be celebrated at its
Annual Signature Fundraising Gala, "A Taste of Mercy," on Wednesday,
June 8, 2016, at Shaker Ridge Country Club, Loudonville, New York; and
WHEREAS, The theme for this year's event is "Continuing the Mercy
Tradition"; and
WHEREAS, Circles of Mercy, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy Northeast
Community, is dedicated to improving the quality of life in the communi-
ty by working to end the cycle of poverty, especially among women and
women with children; and
WHEREAS, This vital organization honors the dignity of each person by
offering hospitality and providing services, compassion, stewardship,
leadership and collaboration, which is performed in an effort to instill
hope and empower individuals to reach their full potential; and
WHEREAS, An exceptional student at Columbia High School, Stephen R.
Reilly holds a cumulative GPA of 92.78, achieved high Academic Honors
every quarter, was named to the Principal's List in February of 2014,
and is a member of National Honor Society and the Math League; and
WHEREAS, For his incredible academic achievements and outstanding
leadership, Stephen R. Reilly has been the recipient of numerous awards
and accolades including the 2015 University of Rochester - George East-
man Young Leaders Award, the 2015 United States Marine Corps Scholastic
Excellence Award, and the 2015 Harvard University Book Award; he was
also recognized as a Scholar-Athlete and received a Superintendent's
Letter of Dedication and Appreciation; and
WHEREAS, Since he was a freshman, Stephen R. Reilly has played on the
School's Lacrosse Team, where he served as co-Captain during his senior
year; dedicated to improving his skills, he attended the Siena College
Lacrosse Camp during the summers of 2011, 2012, and 2013, as well as the
United States Military Academy at West Point Lacrosse Camp in the summer
of 2014; and
WHEREAS, Well-liked by his fellow students, Stephen R. Reilly has held
numerous leadership positions throughout his high school career such as
Executive President of Student Council, Executive Vice President of
Student Council, Sophomore Class President, and Freshman Class Presi-
dent; and
WHEREAS, Stephen R. Reilly has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Dedicated to his school and community, Stephen R. Reilly was
chosen as the delegate for the Peer Leadership Conference, the Suburban
Council Leadership Conference, and Boys State, a summer leadership and
citizenship program; and
WHEREAS, Moreover, Stephen R. Reilly has graciously worked for numer-
ous worthy organizations including Circles of Mercy - Catherine's Clos-
et, USS Slater Restoration Program, and Ronald McDonald House Charities,

where he served as Team Leader and co-President of the Teen Ambassadors;
and
WHEREAS, This remarkable young man has helped raise funds for St.
Jude's Children's Hospital, Breast Cancer Awareness and Juvenile
Diabetes, and collected toys for St. Margaret's Center; he also served
as a Guardian on a Patriot Flight to Washington, D.C. on May 28, 2016;
and
WHEREAS, When he is not at school or helping someone, Stephen R. Reil-
ly enjoys staying active and maintaining his fitness by swimming and
snowboarding; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Stephen R. Reilly has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Stephen R. Reilly has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Stephen R. Reilly upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the Sister Gail Rieth Volunteer Award by Circles of Mercy on June
8, 2016, and to wish him continued success in all of his future endeav-
ors; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Stephen R. Reilly.
