LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Jeffrey J. Coghlan upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the 2016 Broome County Distinguished
Citizen Award by the Boy Scouts of America, Baden-Powell Council
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Jeffrey J. Coghlan has given not only of his time and ener-
gies but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and conse-
quently has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Jeffrey J.
Coghlan upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2016
Broome County Distinguished Citizen Award by the Boy Scouts of America,
Baden-Powell Council; this auspicious occasion was celebrated at its
annual fundraising dinner on Thursday, February 4, 2016, at The McKin-
ley, Endicott, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Boy Scouts of America, Baden-Powell Council's Broome
County Distinguished Citizen Award recognizes individuals who set posi-
tive examples for others and who demonstrate concern and significant
care for their communities; and
WHEREAS, Jeffrey J. Coghlan has forty-five years of experience in
restaurant management, and is the Chief Operating Officer of 45 compa-
nies which operate 240 Wendy's restaurants located throughout the United
States and in the province of Alberta, Canada; and
WHEREAS, A Wendy's franchisee since 1989, Jeffrey J. Coghlan has been
responsible for the back office support of his various restaurant affil-
iations, and leads a team of more than 50 employees at his office in
Cortland, New York; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this esteemed business leader has served as a
Wendy's National Advertising Program Trustee and a member of both its
Franchise Advisory Council and PAC Advisory Board; he is also Co-Chair
of the Old Fashioned Franchise Association, the independent association
of Wendy's Franchisees; and
WHEREAS, Recently, Jeffrey J. Coghlan has added Moe's Southwest Grill
to his restaurant portfolio, and has become a member of the company's
Franchise Advisory Council and Marketing Committee; he has also been
involved in the development of the start-up concept, Core Greens, Grains
and Bone Broth; and
WHEREAS, Jeffrey J. Coghlan has been called upon to contribute his
time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has
always given of himself unstintingly; he has served on numerous local
charity, ministry and community boards, and participated in a multitude
of fundraisers for worthy causes; and
WHEREAS, A resident of the Binghamton area since 1983, Jeffrey J.
Coghlan's community involvement began soon after his arrival when he
became active with CHOW, and later, the Broome County Council of Church-
es; and
WHEREAS, In recent years, Jeffrey J. Coghlan helped create the Wendy's
Walk for Kids, a very successful fundraising effort benefitting local
children's charities; he has also graciously set up the Hope Tent at the
annual Spiedie Fest, as a family friendly place to visit during the
event; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Jeffrey J. Coghlan serves locally, as a board
member at both Davis College and Broome County Community Charities, and
nationally, as a board member with the Dave Thomas Foundation for
Adoption; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and honors for his outstand-
ing service, Jeffrey J. Coghlan has been presented with the Wendy's
Eagle Award, Wendy Award, Diamond Award and Dave's MBA; he was also
inducted into the Wendy's Hall of Fame Class of 2005; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Jeffrey J. Coghlan has stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Jeffrey J. Coghlan has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jeffrey J. Coghlan upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of the 2016 Broome County Distinguished Citizen Award by the Boy
Scouts of America, Baden-Powell Council; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jeffrey J. Coghlan.
