LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Fire Fighter Leon W. Smith, Jr.
Foundation upon the occasion of hosting its 2016 Annual Benefit Luncheon
on June 18, 2016

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
The Fire Fighter Leon W. Smith, Jr. Foundation upon the occasion of
hosting its 2016 Annual Benefit Luncheon on Saturday, June 18, 2016, at
Greater Saint Mary Church of Christ, Brooklyn, New York; and
WHEREAS, Fire Fighter Leon W. Smith lost his life during the World
Trade Center Tragedy; in 2004, a foundation was established in his name
to honor students who plan on attending college; and
WHEREAS, Since its inception, this vital foundation has raised signif-
icant funds and 10 students have earned their degrees and are working in
various fields; and
WHEREAS, Currently, The Fire Fighter Leon W. Smith, Jr. Foundation is
supporting three young people, one of whom lives in Bedford Stuyvesant
and attends the State University of New York at Albany; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those founda-
tions which enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and
have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have
earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Fire Fighter Leon W. Smith, Jr. Foundation upon the occasion
of hosting its 2016 Annual Benefit Luncheon on June 18, 2016; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Fire Fighter Leon W. Smith, Jr. Foundation.
