LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Liam Grogan upon the occasion of
capturing the 132-pound Novice Boxing Title at the New York State Golden
Gloves on May 1, 2016

WHEREAS, Athletic competition enhances the moral and physical develop-
ment of the young people of this State, preparing them for the future by
instilling in them the value of teamwork, encouraging a standard of
healthy living, imparting a desire for success and developing a sense of
fair play and competition; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those exemplary athletes who excel in the sport of boxing,
distinguishing themselves through their exceptional performance, attain-
ing unprecedented success and the highest level of personal achievement;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Liam Grogan upon the occasion of capturing the 132-pound Novice
Boxing Title at the New York State Golden Gloves held on Sunday, May 1,
2016, at The Cove in Depew, New York; and
WHEREAS, A native of Hamburg, New York, Liam Grogan is a junior at
Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School in Buffalo; and
WHEREAS, With this victory, Liam Grogan is now set to compete in the
open class in 2017 where he will have a chance to compete for a national
title; and
WHEREAS, Liam Grogan's overall boxing record is outstanding, and he
was loyally and enthusiastically supported by family, fans, friends and
the community at large; and
WHEREAS, The hallmarks of Liam Grogan, from the opening match of the
season to participation in the Golden Gloves championship, were a
triumph of athletic ability, good sportsmanship, honor, and scholarship,
demonstrating that this athlete is second to none; and
WHEREAS, Athletically and academically, Liam Grogan has proven himself
to be an unbeatable combination of talents, reflecting favorably on his
school; and
WHEREAS, Trainer Jim Ralston has done a superb job in guiding, molding
and inspiring this exceptional young pugilist toward his goals; and
WHEREAS, Sports competition instills the values of teamwork, pride and
accomplishment, and Liam Grogan has clearly made a contribution to the
spirit of excellence which is a tradition of his school; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Liam Grogan upon the occasion of capturing the 132-pound
Novice Boxing Title at the New York State Golden Gloves on May 1, 2016;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Liam Grogan, and Trainer Jim Ralston.
