LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Randy Cross upon the occasion of his
induction into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of
Fame
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
outstanding athletes who have distinguished themselves through their
exceptional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Randy Cross
upon the occasion of his induction into the Schenectady City School
District Athletic Hall of Fame, to be celebrated at its 19th Annual Hall
of Fame and Reunion Dinner on Monday, September 12, 2016, at Proctor's
Theatre in Schenectady, New York; and
WHEREAS, Randy Cross is a 1961 graduate of Mont Pleasant High School,
where he distinguished himself by his many notable achievements on the
basketball court and in track and field; and
WHEREAS, A key part of the 1960-1961 Mont Pleasant Basketball team,
Randy Cross played a vital role in helping his team achieve a 15-3
record, while also ending Linton High School's 46-game winning streak;
and
WHEREAS, Randy Cross also competed as a high jumper on the Mont Pleas-
ant Track Team where he won the Rye High Invitational Meet; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from Mont Pleasant High School, Randy Cross
attended Boston University (BU) where he led his school's basketball
team in scoring all three years he played, and became the only athlete
in BU history to win both the Athlete of the Year and Scholar-Athlete of
the Year Awards in the same year; and
WHEREAS, Randy Cross averaged 18.2 points per game in his sophomore
season and was named to the All-New England Second Team; as a junior, he
increased his scoring average to 19.0 points per game and was named
First Team All-New England and District One; and
WHEREAS, Randy Cross was Captain of the 1964-1965 BU squad, and scored
18.9 points per game while grabbing 13 rebounds per contest; he finished
his career with 691 rebounds and 1,159 points, the 5th highest career
scoring average and 4th highest career rebounding average in BU history;
and
WHEREAS, In 1965, Randy Cross graduated from the BU School of Educa-
tion with High Honors, and went on to complete his Master's degree in
Social Administration from Temple University; and
WHEREAS, The recipient of numerous awards and honors during his illus-
trious career, Randy Cross was selected to become a member of the BU
Athletic Hall of Fame and the Upstate New York Basketball Hall of Fame;
and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is moved to honor Randy Cross for his
extraordinary athletic accomplishments which are a tribute to his skill,
dedication and commitment; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations with
praise and pride to honor Randy Cross upon the occasion of his induction
into the Schenectady City School District Athletic Hall of Fame; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Randy Cross and the Schenectady City School District Athletic
Hall of Fame.
